In Dash Radio

I was just checking on the coach and noticed the in-dash radio time display was flashing.  I shut off the 12 V switch at the steps then turned it back on.  The time display kept flashing when power was restored to the radio.  I turned on the radio to see if it worked but it kept cutting out.  Is there a simple fix or is my radio becoming toast?

Most likely when you turned the power off to the radio, it lost it mind, so now needs reset. My guess, the clock wire should be wired to the DC all the time, not thru the door switch.

So how do I reset the radio or is it time to "commit it" to the trash heap?

Surely there is a method to put the correct time in it, like when the time changes or it gets off the correct time over  a long time, or you change battery,  there is a way to reset it.  No Idea what radio you have, but surely someone here on the forum can give you the bugttons to push, me I hunt until it starts doing what I need.
Just ask, give the name or even a good pix so it can be identified.

Rick,

I suspect it's the same one we had in our coach - has both a CD player and cassette?

If so, the very basic "manual" we have says

Setting the clock  To set the hour, press and hold the CLK button and use the SEEK button to set the hour forward or back.  To set the minute, press and hold the CLK button and use the TUNE button to set the minute forward or back.  The CLK button will allow you to switch between media display mode and clock display mode.

Now, it sounds like something is causing the radio to drop power.  Could be a loose/corroded connection.  I don't believe ours lost power to the radio clock circuitry when we killed the main 12V switch, so you'll want to check your schematics to see if that switch even applies to radio power.

Setting the time is not the problem.  The time display keeps flashing and the radio will shut on and off coinciding with the clock flashes.  The flashing interval has increased as in it is staying off longer.  It may be a short.

Michelle, yes it has the CD player and cassette.

Michelle, yes it has the CD player and cassette.

It does sound like a unit power circuitry problem then (short, bad capacitor, etc.)

We still have our old one at home if you're going to be anywhere near DFW in early October or the Grandvention or Nac in mid-late October.  You're welcome to it if you can wait that long.

Thank you Michelle for the offer.  We were planning on attending the Granvention and will make our final decision by the end of next week.  We will not be using the coach until then so we are in no rush.  We have lots of time to look at other options for replacement of the radio if it comes to that.  Maybe you have some suggestions for replacement.
