Hi Bill,

Indirectly heard from Alton at Foretravel, a completely lifting tag axel came out in 2003, plus 5 coaches in 2002.

And they have moved back to just a releasing tag on the IH-45 due to weight concerns.  I confirmed with this with Tyle during our IH-45 reveiw/walk through and test drive.

Gary Omel designed a superb lifting tag 'kit' that can be retrofitted to the earlier coaches. Available via Xtreme (of course!).

Weight concerns of the lifting mechanism? Releasing tag air bag (without lifting) will still cause tires to slide and possibly flat spot.

The weight concern was due to the new 600 engines and their weight, not the weight of the lifting mechanism, per FOT.

I will say, that I was able to do "donuts" in front of the laundry at CampFT in a 45ft IH-45, with the tag released.  Amazing turning radius with a 45ft coach.

With my just releasing tag I never see any unusual wear on those tires.  Replacement is scheduled by age not mileage like all the rest.

On the 06 Phenix we had ,with release only on the tag . That is fine ---but----- when you apply the brakes while moving flat spots happen .Been there done that .Our 10 Phenix lifts the tag , this i like more betterly.                              Brad Metzger

Release and gravel are an issue when you tap the brakes too. If on gravel I do not release.

I only creep with the tag released.  The speed limit is only 5mph, and that beeping is there to remind you.  I've never had the tag tires skid.

When you have tag release and you are moving, no matter the speed , and you apply the brakes enough to slow or stop, and they are adjusted properly ,your tag drags even if your not watching .I have observed others and seen the results of my own tires .Yes , the surface plays a part, some more so than others but--same results .I do not get into this type of subject ,and am not an expert on anything , this is one thing i have been down a dusty road on and paid $$$  [new tires]to fix only to do again .My driving habit figures into this also and i know that for sure .    Brad Metzger
