Transmission service

So I finally got my transmission serviced, been needing to do that for a while.  I took it to Stewart & Stevenson, they are doing them flatrate, $500 for 3000 series and I think $650 for 4000 series (mine is 3000 series so I know that one for sure).  They changed all filters of course, put in synthetic fluid, lubed the drivetrain, and ran a full diagnostic.  While mine didn't show any codes, their diagnostic showed a clutch that is a little sick, which explains a rough downshift I have.  They also cleared the driving memory after the service and now it is shifting much better, the previous owner apparently had a lead foot compared to mine.  The service only took 2 hours and I have much better peace of mind knowing the clutch problem is identified, which I don't think places other than the dealer would have found since it didn't have any codes.  The crew there was very knowledgable and courteous and gave me printouts of all the findings.  The service interval is 3 yrs/ 75k miles.  I recommend it to anyone in need.  They said the price difference to the 4000 series is all about the amount of fluid, it roughly doubles.

Steven,

Where is Stewart and Stevenson location?  I'm guessing somewhere between Nac and Houston, since I've heard folks from both locations mention them.

Our last transmission service (4000 series) in early 2011, Transynd plus filter, was $696 plus tax so the prices S&S charge are quite reasonable especially for additional diagnostic and including drivetrain lube.

Guess I should have Googled it first - I thought it was a one shop operation :-X

Thanks for the link - that will definitely come in handy!
