Surge protector

Assuming that our coach doesn't have one, where would be the preferred location (physical and electrical) to install a power management device? I'd like to put in a Progressive Industries permanently installed one on our 93 U300. There was some discussion on one of the forums (can't remember which one) about almost needing two - one before and one after the transfer switch. The thinking was that one before the transfer switch will protect everything from problems originating outside of the coach, such as in the power pedestal or further up the line, but would do nothing should the generator misbehave. One after the transfer switch will take care of any generator misbehavior, but could leave the transfer switch unprotected from line problems.

I suppose that I could use a 50A external protector (the kind that plugs into the power pedestal) and the permanent one after the transfer switch for total protection, but I wonder what that transfer switch costs and what sort of damage might be done if I had only one protector after the transfer switch. A quick check on Tweety's seems to show that the switch costs about the same as a permanently mounted EMS.
