Dining Area to Breakfast Bar

I see that FT put up a picture of my remodel of the dining area to breakfast bar.  I loved how it turned out. It opened up the whole feel of the coach there and is very comfortable to use.

Some of the particulars they did were to extend the slide room floor 9 inches and to put a piece of 3/4 inch plywood over it and then cover it with carpet.  They put in the wainscotting on the walls in cherry and attached the bar to the wall and to a brace in the pantry.  They also installed two electric lines to feed power to under the bar as well. One on each side.

We put it in a while ago. I will have to see if I have the number. It was purchased at camping world though and it is brass as that is what the rest of the fixtures are.

John, Agree on the new dining /breakfast nook, liked it when we were still at FOT, hope it does the trick so I can have that idea carried over to mine.

I love it and it is much nicer than the table and J sofa or the booth even.  I think they should do it more often in the new coaches.

Really nice mod John!

On the subject of 'dining areas' though, I wonder if, and I have not found it, info on a dinette assembly with more space for one's feet?  One of my head scratching items, when looking at FT's was the lack of space available in the 'dinette booth arrangements.  My wife and I seemed to sit there with our feet on top of each other.  I/we, sit there Every Night.  We might only have a guest once in a blue moon... so wish to configure space better than boats!  (All sleep 7!-even if they are 20' long!)  I can party 40 but sleep and dine 2..............'mostly'.
Is it necessary to change to a smaller sofa?  I seemed to feel the 2001-40' had a slightly larger space between booth seats.. and some coaches had much less foot room.

Any thoughts for comfortable seating in the 'booth' arrangement?  I often use the table area there in my other coach as a work/computer space, but do not want a 'dedicated' work space........ and 'like to look at my partner eye to eye during dinner and afterwards as well as having my little dog resting beside me..

The
traditional booth works for me, but Ft spacing seems minimal..

comments welcome!

We took out the booth seats and bought 2 chairs, appears like more room as the booth seats use up much eye space. This is working very well for us.

Do you have pictures - would love to see what this looks like... also, does your sofa have arms - or how did you handle the transition from the sofa to the "dining room"?  Enquiring minds, as they say! :))

Three years ago, while on our first visit to FOT with our then new to us '89 GV we met Carol and Jeff Savournin. Carol explained how they had changed out a coach like ours from a table and chairs to a breakfast bar or "harvest table." I made the change after we got home in the spring. Love the new arrangement. It lets us look outside-straight ahead--without getting kinks in our necks. We no longer have to fight for foot room under the table. The harvest table also seems to provide more room for dishes, etc.
(Additional benefit: Due to the DW and me getting a bit "fluffy" from our medications we no longer have to try to squeeze into the space between the table and wall.)

Our couch does have arms, so problem there with the transition. We just bought 2 dining chairs and set them in front of the table on each side and are really enjoying the extra room.

My couch did not have the arms and FT built one for me and matched it up perfectly. I will say that my coach originally had a table and two chairs on the slide but it was too small a slide floor and they kept falling off so we put in the J lounge sofa.  Used that for four years and hated it. SO we decided to go with the remod that David F suggested. We are very happy with it and we can put the chairs on it and not have them fall off and we have enough room and it is very comfy. The arm on the couch was make to be the perfect height for us as well. We got to test it out before they covered it.

John, I showed the photo of your conversion to Ruth  to see if she wanted me to change ours too but she thought looking at the picture that the surface area was too small as she does a lot of baking and likes the table we have for extra surface. I thought it would give a few extra inches of passing room. We have table and 2 chairs. What is the measurement of the counter, it looks like about 12" wide?

It is a bit over I think but you can make it any size you want.  We have a Double Galley so we have two work surfaces already.

I think the 15" laptop refers to width not depth but could be wrong?.  We also have a seperate surface area on the buffet but our Nespresso coffee maker and other things take up that area. If you get a chancr sometime would be interested in you putting a tape measure on it for me, and yes I realise I can make it what I want, size wise.
Thx

Yes you are right but I can put a standard placemat and have room on both sides as well. I will measure it for you and get it for you. It is one of the best upgrades we have done so far.
