Another FOT Service Miracle

$1000+ servicing/repairing Aquahot at FOT last week.  It was ON (switch anyway) at the factory.  I guess I thought it was working.  We are at Big Bend NP now.  Guess what.  Aquahot will not start on diesel.

I just got thru facing the same thing. Mine worked 10 days in Quartzsite and then failed when I got home. I used the Aquahot troubleshooting manual to diagnose it. (very useful) along with some phone support with Art & Roger.

After going thru the flowchart 3 times it turned out to be the fuel solenoid.
Although it tested good the 1st 2 times I checked it. :headwall:
I thought I was going crazy.

Roger,

What are the symptoms...what phase of not running on diesel do you observe -fuses blown, varying blower sounds, diesel leaking, shut down in 10 seconds, pre purge or post purge not occurring, no blower, etc.? Tell us more.

I'm in Big Bend NP.  There is very limited WIFI next to the campground store.  Nearest lousy phone service is 23 miles away.  It is nice to be disconnected most of the time.

Aqua Hot.  Switch on, blower noise, after a minute or two, a wee bit of raw diesel smell and then blower off.  This is exactly what it was doing when I took it to FOT.  They replaced the $836.87 computer.  It sounds like that is the first thing they do no matter what if you drive in.  They did an annual maintenance, they charged me for the labor and parts anyway.  I did get the "bad" computer but none of the other parts.

I'm still cleaning grease and black smudges off the bay doors, the front door and the dash.

When I was at the place where cell phone service is marginally available I called Jason several times and left messages for him to call back.  Seems like the only employees at FOT is the voice that answers, the receptionist and voice mails.  Never heard from anyone.  A couple hours later I tried again with the same results.

It is in the 90's here so not such a big deal.  Northen New Mexico in a couple weeks. Might be nice then.

The computer certainly can be the cause of your symptoms though other things can cause them too - such as the igniter coil or flame sensor. If you would like your old computer box tested, I'd be happy to do so.

Strongly recommend Roger or Rudy.  Had a similar problem replaced the control unit, nozzle, filter.  Worked for 4 cycles and then not and then again.  Turned out it was the ignition coil.  Intermittent issue.

Don't like nor use our AquaHot. Leaked fuel and had a big clean-up. Repaired the pumps a couple of times. N ow it leaks fresh water so it is valved off and is just dead weight. If any of you wants it for the effort of taking it out and plugging the various lines, etc, it's yours. We're in Vero Beach FL for a week then down to Ft. Myers for April then up to Normal, IL for June. Let's talk.

I would head over to Rudy in Houston and have him repair or replace your unit. He can work wonders.

We just stopped by Baytown for Rudy to service our Aquahot. Stayed in a very convenient park near him, with a really great RV repair facility just across the street that can handle all sorts of things.  If you want the AquaHot out and some other thing in, I would certainly consult with Rudy about your options.  He monitors the Forum all the time ... send him a private message.

Sure sorry to hear about the Aqua Hot issue, but that would be normal results of having it either not serviced or serviced by a shop that has no clue about the A H units.  We all try to save money where we can, but my idea of trying to nickel-dime some items just does not pay.  When I had Rudy go thru my system last year, it was not working, so I told Rudy to make it new, I did not want it just fixed, just fixing the present issue is not a warm fuzzy for me, so why the request to repair back to new, yes, over $1k, but it works.  Could just made it work for less, but when would the next fix be needed ?

Back in the days when cars had separate belts for everything, I always told the mechanics that if they had to take a belt off it was to be replaced by a new belt UNLESS the one taken off was new. More than one was surprised by that, but when I explained that the only additional cost was the price of the belt, and this was preventing (perhaps) a breakdown a few miles down the road, they all agreed that it was good preventive maintenance. Of course, it was always the rear belt that broke.
