GV Windshields

While doing a walk around prepping for this weekends rally I found that the WS's had moved in the seals and I had a water leak on the left.
I returned to the glass shop that installed these and they reset the WS's for 50 bucks.  While inspecting their work I found that these 3.5 year old WS's had started to delaminate on the lower right. Seems to me that delamination after this short a time is not reasonable.  Called Duncan who adjusted these for Progressive and they stated only a one year warranty.
I am in the process of tryting to get a photo and sending it to Foretravel since they supplied the WS's, we will have to see what happens but I am not a happy camper at this point.

I have lamination all around both windshields, these are the original windshields, I was thinking if having them and the gaskets replaced in NAC. I wonder if this delam is a problem with GV windshields. Never had delam on any other vehicle I have owned. Is this typical?

Roland, I had hazy delam on both sides when they were replaced in 09.  Of course they were fifteen years old and badly chipped pitted and hazy so it was not unusual.
What is unusual is that these WS's were replaced in 09 and the right one is showing delamination and bubbles.It will only get worse.

Soon after I acquired my '95 U300 last October with only 7,155 miles on the odo, I replaced both w/s halves and the gasket. This, because the drivers side was shattered ( long story - towing company did it in) -- and the replacements only were available without the top tint and I wanted a matched set, of course. Anyway -- when the installers were removing the O.E.M. glass I did notice that both of them had that foggy-white evidence of de-lamination at numerous locations around the edges, somewhat hidden by the gasket, but obviously traveling.

So -- Despite the low miles, it is now 18 years old, and even though it sat in only the relatively mild climate of SoCal without big temperature swings common in other parts of the Country, I can assume that the original factory glass FT used in that era was not as high of a quality product as one might expect.

You asked me about your need to replace a cracked passenger side W/S on your same-model Coach by a p.m.
 -- but then blocked my responding to it. ( ???)

Anyway -- so here is what I wrote to you, and maybe some others will find value in it:



Darn! -- I let the glass installer take the passenger side glass with them, as I just didn't want to deal with storing it or crating it for shipping, etc.

Pasted in below is some correspondence between myself and RV Glass Solutions, a sister company of Coach Glass -- in Eugene OR.

I made the final deal at $1400 for both sides, including the gasket, crating, and shipment to L.A. That was significantly less than Encore or FT.

It did cost me another $1,000 for the removal and install by a L.A. glass shop that received the shipment, and came up here to Ventura County, CA to do the work. I'm satisfied with the job. As I watched them work, with the complexity of the side windows and getting everything in -- I'm glad that I didn't tackle the job myself (yeah, sometimes I think I can do anything -- ::) ) even though they would not warranty it anyway without a Pro install.

We have a windshield of the same size as yours in stock, however, the windshield we carry does not have a shade band and the original windshield (based off the part number provided) has a shade band. I do have two gaskets in stock. I will recommend that if the shop can repair the gasket, it is best to have them do so. The gasket wraps around your Pilot and Co-pilot windows (side windows directly next to the driver and passenger seat) as well as the windshields. The installation (with the gasket being replaced or without) should be done by a very experienced shop because of its difficulty. The pricing for glass is as follows:
 
Glass: $487.00 per side
Crate: $75.00 per side
Freight:$104.00 for one $129.00 for both
Gasket: $280.00
 
Total: $946.00 for one side with the gasket.

I have the Unihome Coach ( A U300 SE-- as stated). I have a Guardian # off the driver's side of D7474 (the passenger side # is D7475). I need a quote (installed) for the drivers side, and also a price for the gasket as I have one torn section of a couple of inches at the vertical gasket post. It might be able to be repaired with urethane -- but if not, I need to know that price. The passenger side glass is in good condition.

Do the windscreens of a 98 Grand Villa fit any thing else, Or are they made specifically for individual coachs,

If they are made in the same size for other Vehicles, I may be able to buy one here, Other wise I will have to import one from the states,

I have a groove about 1/4 inch deep and 3 inches long on my drivers side, Now right hand side of Bus, It looks like a rope has been dragging back and forwards across it and wont pass the roadworthy here,

I was thinking of getting it filled with epoxy, But I will have to wait till every ones back after Easter,

Brian, My info is that the License to make the WS's for Foretravel GV's is owned by FT.  I know that other manufacturers have the same WS but I don't believe that the quality is the same.  When mine were replaced the WS's shipped to the installer would not fit and we had to get them from FT.  Sorry to hear of your WS problem.  Good luck.

Further to my Post, The W/S repairer has been and said it was too deep to polish it out with out distortion, And as I am presenting it for a first time roadworthy, No distortion in the windscreen is permissable,

There are none of these W/S.s in OZ, I can get a mould made for Three and a half grand, and I would then own the mould, So if any over here wants a new windscreen they would have to buy it off me,

But there are only 7 of these coachs in OZ, That I know of,  I will see what FT want for one of theirs, and shipping by air to OZ, To see which way I go,

Make it here or get it shipped out from FT,

It will cost me $150-00 to get it fitted. When it gets here,
