Wrangler TOAD

Hello Jeep Wrangler TOAD owners:
I am looking for a Jeep Wrangler to tow. On several that I have looked at, they have aftermarket front bumpers. These bumpers have two "tabs" that stick out on the front that are used for tow hooks. My question is, can these be used to hook up to the tow bar directly? They look real solid. If yes, that would eliminate the need for a base plate.
thanks,
Old Hippie

I am thinking ... No. That is the short answer. We have a Jeep Wrangler 4Dr that is set up for a Roadmaster tow bar.  On our vehicle, the hooks that I believe you are referring to are too high for the tow bar(don't know the model or year Jeep you are talking about).  Wrong angle, and not what you want to depend on when you are cruising down the highway.  Just trust the guys who engineered this stuff and do it the way they recommend.

Old Hippie, it depends on what manufacturer they are, some are OK for direct towing you would need to contact them. The other problem you will have with after market bumpers is finding ready built tow bar brackets. You might look for some of the jeep forums lots of guys have built there own brackets, Wranglers are not hard to set up to tow with home made brackets/ after market bumpers. Of course once you start home brewing things any liability is on you.
Good luck with the hunt.
