Basement door striker bolt
I'm trying to get a replacement for a basement door striker bolt and Foretravel parts tells me they don't have it anymore and sent me a "new" replacement part. I'm enclosing a photo of the new and old parts. I do not see any way to make the new one work. The original part has a raised shoulder to keep the bolt from pulling through the slot it is mounted in. There is not enough thread on the new one to accommodate a washer, the mounting bracket, and the nut. Also the striker post part of the bolt is too long. My current door got tweaked and as a result the alignment was off just enough so that the original bolt was striking the door frame that the latch is mounted to. The last picture shows where the bolt was striking the door frame. The bolt got bent back as a result and I had to straighten it. I'm concerned now that it might break. The old bolt was just barely hitting the frame. The new one is so long that it would overlap the door frame by almost a quarter of an inch.
Any ideas short of finding a machine shop to build a new bolt? Has anyone used one of these new bolts on an installation like mine?
