Good Sam RVND-LM GPS

Am considering purchasing a Good Sam RVND-LM GPS unit.  Can't find anything on the forum about it, does anyone have experience with one of these?  Good, bad, or indifferent?  Thanks and have a great day  ----  Fritz

The brand Good Sam Club sells is Rand McNally and there have been a few discussions about them you can find if you search the forum for Rand McNally.

Fritz, I have the Rand McNally 7710 which I believe is what GS is selling.  It works fine when it works.  Twice they have replaced the 12 Volt charger.  No reason has been found, it will charge for a day or two and then it just quits.  I am sorry now that I bought It.

rand mcnally maps not nearly as up to date as Google maps - get iPad or aneroid and a mounting bracket - does so much more than dedicated unit.

I have the Rand Mcnally, use it, but buss google maps more, and if a conflict, i go with google maps route

I use my smartphone as a wifi hotspot, alternately you can buy a data enabled tablet, and add it to your cell plan. Gas buddy, I exit, allstays and a host of other useful apps on top of weather, apple maps, google maps etc

I have the Garmin RV760LMT. I've used it since summer 2013. I've been very pleased with it.

It uses built in maps, so it doesn't require an Internet connection. I can pair it with the iPhone so that it can pull information from the Internet. I use that to overlay weather and traffic on the maps.

We have a Millenicom stick. We get 20 GB/month for $60/month. That is enough for the two of us. Since we have electricity in the coach while traveling Jo Ann is on the Internet all the time. When we're in the car, especially when we're working, we take the router with us and have Internet then, too. Anywhere we can get a cell phone signal we can have our own Internet. We don't use the "free" wifi much, since there are security issues with that.

Dan,

We have a note also with a stand. In a 400 mile trip we used the GPS it took 150MB, on the return we used the satellite function. It took 400MB of data, quite a difference. AGAINST the RM7720, matched turns mile for mile. :D

The only difference - RM7720 WARNINGS; Sharp turns, Uphill, Downhill, low clearance (matched to your defined parameters) RM7720 CAN tie into your data and provide satellite and traffic conditions.

I used miles instead of  time to provide the reference point, your experience may vary. ^.^d

Dave, interesting what additional features does garmin have?

The RM7720 has in addition to what I posted; customizable checklists, on going costs for fule, miles, maintenance items, POI, big rig size warning thru your specific coach size height, u can use it as a bluetooth hookup for your phone.

It would be nice if it had elevations and gas buddy too. :))

No idea of what additional featuresthe Garmin has over any other wannabee GPS, think for me, it is what I trust and have years of sperience with, sorta a feel good thing as I understand its manners. ;D

No contest here - We have used Garmin on the boat, motorcycle and truck with the TT.  Now the RM7720.  I was so used to how the Garmin worked it took a while to learn how to use the 7720.  It does have elevation.  JMO  The instructions on the 7720 could be better.  :D

I have the Garmin RV760LMT and have used it since July of 2013. Great performer and easy to use.  Have easily downloaded many POI's to kind of customize for my travel needs.

We got a Magellan RV9365TLMB as an award. Supposed to be their latest and greatest RV gps. We have factory GPS in the car and a Garmin in the Jeep. After using a Garmin I would trade this Magellan for a good cup of coffee.  The screen is huge but the resolution and colors are like 50's color TV.  It doesn't show your speed without tapping the screen and then it only shows up briefly.  Often it shows we are driving in the pasture next to the Interstate.  It is on the same mount the Garmin was on and the Garmin always had good reception and didn't tell me to return to the highway.  I have contacted the Magellan customer service a couple of times but never got a response.

There is no comparison. I may try the Garmin RV unit. I do like the larger screen.
