Refrigerator question. Do I need the inverter on to keep the freezer working?

We are finally going to try out the FT for a few days. It still has the original fridge, which works great. I know to use the ice maker you have to have the switch on. My question is do I need the inverter on to keep the freezer working? I don't care about making ice going down the road, just keeping the frozen stuff frozen. This trip should be interesting with our three dogs and my bride in a campground for the first time. Happy Fourth of July! Mark

The freezer side of the refer will work even if the compressor switch is turned off. We  had a 98 with the compressor and I never did turn it on

Our freezer works off of propane when we are not plugged in. I'm betting yours does too. Put a thermometer in there and give it a try.

I believe I have the same fridge in my '97. The ice-maker does not work without 115vac. The freezer continues to work on propane, but 115 vac is required to operate the compressor. The ice-maker mechanism, that is, that part of the ice-maker that rotates to eject the cubes, also requires 115vac to operate. I use the inverter on the road and make ice as required. If I have adequate ice, I turn the switch for the compressor off.

Thanks for the information. Everything worked good. No FT problems at all-everything worked great. Can't say the same for our three country dogs that have no leash time. But still a fun weekend. Mark
