House Batteries

Can anyone name a place closed to Foretravel of Texas to buy new house batteries. I have three MK 8G8D batteries that are marginal. I have had them load tested. I will need the place to install them.
I was in Nac last Tuesday to get some work done and need to go back to get some of the work redone. Looks like this next trip will be a very expensive one.

Across the hwy from FOT is a hydraulic and battery shop. Great service and good prices. Ask them about AGM ones.

I found I saved 400 dollars getting my batteries outside of Nac. They know there will be a number of people coming into town and want batteries.  In fact I offered to bring some batteries down to MOT from VA as I could get. The same battery cheaper than their cost bya large margin.

We last purchase our MK/Deka/East Penn (all identical batteries with different labels and different warranties) from NAPA, previous batteries from CarQuest auto store. Both times they had to be ordered and arrived within a couple of days..

NAPA was 1,099 for two 8D8G Gel Deka/East Penn earlier this year. $550 each, they loaded and unloaded batteries from our car, but we installed them in our motorhome. They weigh about 160 pounds each.

Noticeably heavier than the flooded cell 8d's that they replaced.  The battery man said that was a good judge of a batteries capacity as heavier meant more lead.

I found mine for 445 now it is 476 a battery installed here in VA.  I sed them for my 2000 36 foot as well. Searching around will yield different pricing. I wonder if it is related to shipping costs as they are heavy.

Oh and they gave me almost three hundred bucks for the old ones as scape.  They did it by weight so that reduced the cost by another 100 a battery.

John, Its make up and how much the market will bare.  I pay a lot less than that for my Jel Cell 8D, but I also buy about 50 batteries a month  from my supplier.

Roadrunner,

I don't know if you are close to DFW at all, but we have been very pleased with Danny's RV in Denton, both price and service for batteries.  You do need to have them order the batteries, but it only takes a day or two for them to get them.

We had ours done in May, Deka Intimidator AGMs.  $506 apiece, plus $3 state disposal fee per battery.  They got the cores.

They were willing to have us buy the batteries and get the core credit ourselves if we wanted to.  Each core is worth $36 at East Penn, but the drive to buy the batteries and then return the cores is 45 minutes each way (net price if we wanted to buy the batteries ourselves and do the "schlepping" would be around $483/apiece plus tax; East Penn wants $519 per battery direct before core credit).

Danny's charges $15 flat fee apiece to install.  On a 2003 with the batteries buried in the belly of the coach, WELL worth having them do it.

Bob I haven't found a date code on my batteries yet. I have to go back out and do some cleaning on them. They were in the coach when I bought it and have not given me any problems. The people at Foretravel suspected the weak batteries were giving me the erratic charging by the alternator. As soon as I can get loose I am heading back to Nac for a new evaluation.

Michelle I am close to Waco which puts me about 130 miles from Denton. Not to far to drive for a good price on batteries. I was hoping to find the batteries in Waco or Nac since I am going to Nac next Monday for the alternator problem.

Don't know if you knew it but Batteries Plus Gels are made by East Penn.  They are all over the country with stores.  They have to order them, I got mind in Lewisville, Tx and they had them the next day.

I see that there are many of the Battery Plus Gel stores around my location. Unfortunately they do no installation. If I can find a RV dealer to install them they might be an option.

I cleaned the one battery I could get to and could not find any date code stamped on the case. The pop out date sticker was never popped out.
I bought the coach in early 2010 and they had been in the coach for some times  apparently.

Thanks for looking.  Normally any battery has a stamp in the case with a date code somewhere
