Fuel tank door, '93 Grand Villa

Does anyone know an easy way to get the door open when one of the unlatching rods have come off?

Oh no, not another one.  I thought you were the luckiest guy in the world when the last one came off in wet bay.  The only bay with an arm hole in the floor as you were plugged in.  Guess I need to come down and help break in to another bay.

if you can get to the bottom one, just take the clip out and pry it loose.

Bill "tapped" on the door, fought the handle, and it opened.  Turned out to just be a miss adjusted latch, not a fallen off rod.

I found if I spraysome lube on the latchs every few years they cooperate much better for me. The water dept latches tend to want to rust a little too.

Rance at Xtreme recommended Corrosion X as a lubricant for the latches. I bought a couple of cans of Corrosion X from Xtreme for use as a lubricant and protectant for the latches and other exposed items that may be subject to corrosion.

I discovered that Xtreme uses a lighter (in color and texture) version of Corrosion X than what I had found at Academy stores in Houston. The stuff from Academy is thicker (in color and texture) and stickier than the stuff I got from Xtreme. The lighter stuff seems better for latches and lubrication. I have used the thicker stuff to treat the bulkhead seams before we head north in the winter.

There is a regular corrosion X and a heavy duty which is much thicker. Should say on the container.

Used Carb & Choke cleaner on all latching mechanisms' , then used a silicone spray to lubricate.
Also cleaned and lubricated the rubber door seals.

I get mind from my local TrueValue Hardware store, the first time they didn't have it in stock and didn't know what it was, I gave them there item # 619835 they looked it up and ordered it for me.  They now stock it, I was in 2 weeks ago to pickup another can.  Price for the 6oz can was 11.99.  Grainger also stock the product.  Great stuff.
