Microwave not working (big thank-you Barry Leavitt)

MICROWAVE OVEN NOT WORKING Our Sharp microwave convection oven stopped working.  I removed top horizontal air vent plastic cover (pried off).  After removing the single screw over the control panel, I lifted panel up about 1/2" and pulled away from oven.  After making a wire connector diagram, I removed the several wire connectors from the back of the panel and removed panel.  Inside the space behind the panel is a fuse which was blown.  I removed the wire connectors to the fuse holder, cleaned the fuse holder and replaced the fuse with the exact same type.  In my case fuse is 15 amp fast-acting type 3AB or ABC ceramic type.  Radio Shack p/n 270-1040 for package of 2.  Ours has blown twice in 4 years.  This is not a difficult change, and sure beats removing microwave or getting a new oven. I think that the fuse holder should also be replaced, but I did not change it as I did not have one.

Thank you Barry! I had this exact problem with my Kitchen-Aid microwave. Pressed the button to open the door and the lights went out on the microwave. Checked the microwave circuit breaker and it was good. Unplugged and plugged in still nothing. Checked ForeForums and found your post. Popped the panel off the front of the microwave and pulled the fuse. Used my ohm meter and found no continuity through the fuse. Checked on-line to see if Radio Shack still carried the fuse, they did. Checked for closest location, found several (we're in Denver). Checked for hours, found one open until 7:00pm on Sunday (it was 6:00pm). Called the store confirmed they had the fuse (4 for $3.49). Drove down and got the fuses. Drove home popped the fuse in and all is right with the world again!

Thanks again Barry and everyone else on this forum for all the help you've given. I'm pretty sure I would have divorced Big Agnes long ago without your help!
