water heater replacement on U270 1998 FT

I am asking for guidance in the replacement of a water heater. I noticed over the weekend the cardboard on the bottom of the heater was wet but nothing on the floor, so it must have just started leaking. I have not noticed the water pump running. But it did come on today once in 8hrs.
thank you for your help John

John,

You might want to identify the source of the water-- could easily be a connection on the back (inside of coach) of the water heater.

They used cardboard on the bottom of the heater?

Think I have seen cardboard on the outside of water heaters to cover and protect the insulation.

John,
Here is some detailed information on Barry Leavitts water Heater replacement installation in his 1997 U270.

I agree with Brett W. Find the source of the leak. I would expect failure of a connection rather than failure of the water tank.

We had a leaky connection on the back of our water heater. The seals were old and brittle. I replaced the line with some new PEX and a couple of Watts fittings. Our coach is a year older than yours, and our problem showed up three years ago.

More recently, the plastic drain plug started leaking. I tried to tighten it and managed to dump about 10 gallons of very hot water when the plug broke. Those plastic parts that are subject to the heat of the water heater tend to get brittle.

If you are handy, you can change it out yourself, like we did as written up on BeamAlarm's link. You may want to buy an electric / gas unit if your original does not have electric.
