2003 U-320 How do you know if HWH compressor needs rebuilding?

I have no idea how may hours are on my HWH aux. compressor as I bought the coach used.  So, what would be symptoms that indicate a rebuild is needed?

Mine takes about 2-1/2 minutes to go from low setpoint to 100 psi.

The minor rebuild kit is now $300 from Grainger, so I don't want to rebuild unless there is a real need.

That sure doesn't seem too long to me.  My 2002 compressor on time varies from a minute or so to at least your 2-1/2 minutes.

Over the years that I have had the coach, it seems to go thru times where the compressor wants to stay on continuously...the same experience as others here, and as noted by folks at RnR who work on Foretravels.  When I told them, they checked the system and said it was fine, and suggested I install a switch in the fuse line as they have done several times.  I did, but the compressor has been behaving properly since then (June) as it is in the garage and not experiencing a lot of temperature variation, which I think might be a reason.

If it gets up to 100 psi, I'd sure not think it had any fault?

Our 2002 compressor will run anywhere from 1-2 min.  maybe once a week or every 10-12 days.  And for sure if the weather is cold out, it will kickon a bit more often, maybe more like once a week on command.  And on command I mean at 1:50am as I'm in a great sleep.  Then Boom, compressor and I'm up for an hour or two afterwards!  The switch might be a good idea.  leave it on until going to bed and then back on again in the am when getting up!  Oh, and having a second switch above the bed as you know I won't remember to turn it off until it comes on at 1:50am....

Jim,

Your 2 1/2  minutes sounds just fine.  Minor rebuild is recommended at 6000 hours, major at 12,000 Manual here and in forum Files section: The selected media item is not currently available.
If your compressor uses a paper gasket rather than the newer o-ring seal, rebuild can be a pain in the butt.  Steve had to re-rebuild it - that paper gasket doesn't like to seal well.

Our original compressor was paper; our eBay-purchased replacement (around $300-400, new old stock) appears to have an o-ring.

BTW we scored the second rebuild kit from eBay as well, for about $90, but that was 2 1/2 years ago.

6,000 hours.  Hmm...

Typically, mine runs about once per day for 2-1/2 minutes.

That comes out to 6,000x60/2.5=144,000 days/365=394 years.

I think I won't worry about rebuilding mine.
