Fuel filter change

After reading all the forum posts that I could find I am still a little confused about the proper way to purge the fuel system after changing the fuel filters. There seems to be a lot of opinions out there.  Is there a Cummins approved method for the C8.3?

Terry, The main problem with the fuel filter on the 8.3 is the location of the filter.  I solved the problem by moving the filter to a remote location on the frame using what was called a " Prime LOC " kit, however these are no longer available.
The method I used previously was;
Open the bed and rear hatch
Standing on street side with feet on bell housing and motor mount unscrew the filter and pass it out the back to a helper.
Have helper fill new filter and pass It back to you and screw it in.
Start engine and open throttle as it starts to clear what little air there will be in system.
If it stalls then you will have to pump the little pump on the lift pump while someone else cranks engine.  Do not crank so long that you overheat the starter.
Not Easy but doable.

We change our own fuel filters by pre-filling them, one filter at a time. After each filter change, we start engine and immediately go full-throttle for maximum RPM so it will 'coast' through stalling from any air.

I have a 99 coach with the electronic engine. It has a electric lift pump. I had been pre-filling the filter until last time I did it I noticed a note printed on the Fleetgaurd filter. It said something to the effect that the 8.3 does not require pre-filling. I think it says something about turning the ignition on for so many seconds or something to allow the lift pump to fill the filter. Tried it last time and it worked great. The engine did not even hiccup. I imagine this is only for the engines with the electric lift pump.
