Wiring Puzzle - Bedroom Rear

I took apart the rear overhead in the bedroom to get to my rearview camera and do a bit of general investigation and cleanup. When I took out the section of the shelf in the middle, that has to be removed to get the rear panel off and get to the camera, I found 4 white wires that came thru the hole and terminated under the removable shelf as pictured below.

I suspect that this wiring is for some option that is on a U320, and am curious as to what that might be. More puzzling is that there is no ground wire there, only the 4 white wires.

When I took readings on the wires, two (that I put into knots) have voltage present (13.2 right now), and the other two wires have no voltage. Bedroom light switches have no effect on any of these wires. I also measured and determined neither of the two without voltage are ground wires.

Can anyone enlighten me as to what these wires might be for? Does anyone have any item mounted in the middle of the underside of the bed area? I have the standard two swing-arm lights at either end. Given the framing of this area, it looks like something could be planned to be mounted there from the underside.

On our 02 U320, we have a clock, light switches and generator start all located above the bed. So we can turn on off any light inside and outside of the coach and start/stop the genny. Oh and the clock is also an alarm clock. It shines directly in your eyes unless you dim it way down.

Maybe those wires are for those options?

Thanks. Sounds like those must be what they are for. Now what I need to find is a copy of a U320 12 volt wiring diagram that would include that area. From what I keep finding, all of the chassis must be wired/prepared for all levels of options and models, then as they get put together, some circuits get used and some do not. I even have a circuit breaker in the basement labeled Aqua-Hot on my U270!

That would make sense for a white wire without voltage to be a part of a 3-way light circuit... Perhaps there is a ground wire buried somewhere up there (for a 12 volt clock). It is a little disconcerting finding live wires without any termination at all. Adding a remote generator switch would be interesting, too.

One of Foretravel's features is every wire has a code printed and repeated every so many feet. What are the wire codes?

I hadn't realized that. Of the 4 wires, only 3 have markings that can be seen. The 4th has nothing on the visible part (about 15").
One of the hot wires is marked: RED RR 38105
The second hot wire is: C107 38105
Third wire (neither hot nor ground) is: SW RR 38105
Fourth wire (neither hot nor ground): unknown

What does that tell me, Barry? I don't find anything in my manual's schematics that looks like those numbers.

On our 2004 U270 3610 on the underside of the cabinets above the bed is a switch that turns on lights under the kitchen counter by the refrigerator and lights under the bathroom counter in front on the commode. These are night lights that light the way if someone is up in the night and no other lights are on.

Brad & Christine:

You should have in you documentation "Wire List" pages. On our coach's wire list, #C107 is identified as White, Bedroom Clock.

Others may chime in to help you. Also BeamAlarm may have some info to help you.

You now have wire identification that you can go to your documentation or Foretravel to help you. Every coach is different. We all have these extra wires. Use them how you want. Since you have wires for clock, you may have wires for generator start & docking lights, features that are standard in some bedrooms. Color of wire may help, too.

Nope. No such pages in my 2002 U270 model documentation ...but the C107 seems to likely be the same as in your 1997 U270. All four of these wires are white, and the only other cable in the vicinity is the Panasonic Color CCD camera.

On our '03,

as part of coach harness
RED RR is Gen Rear Start Stop Switch
SW RR is Gen Rear Start Stop Switch (also)

C107 is Bedroom clock.

I'll have to study our schematics to see what other wires might be in that harness and unlabeled for that 4th wire.

Some of my schematics report that they are for all 3 models of coaches, like B-2126 "U270-295-320 Automotive Wiring Dia"...but then I have B-2198 "U270 E32 12V Wiring Diagram" instead of B-2179 (U320) or B-2197 (U295). Are those codes on the B2179 drawing? If so, I'd really appreciate a scan/picture/copy of that drawing. Seems like if Barry's 1997 and your 2003 use the same coding, it might be reasonably easy to track down these wires and figure out a good use for them.

We have our owner's paperwork in PDF form. Unfortunately the wiring schematic is too big a file to send. Here is the wire list, though

That does look handy. Now I wonder why I have never seen such a list for my coach. It isn't in my "Owner's Manual", and I am 99% sure it isn't in the "suitcase" of items.

Unfortunately my copy of B-2179 is a 100 M file (and even compressed, I could only get it to 66 M). Once we're back on landline Internet (rather than tethering our phones) I can try sending it. I still want to search it to see if that wiring bundle you have is on that drawing, too.

Wow! That is huge. Way too big to send via tether, that's for sure. Knowing what the wires are on that end helps, so all I need is to see where they electrically and physically go to make their connections to breakers, etc.

Turning the generator on from back there sounds like a nice upgrade. It has been one of those "never-had-it, never-missed-it" items, but now that I know the wiring has been done for me (like the second water switch), I am anxious to see if I can add it to my U270. I've already been hunting for suitable 12V clocks. Does anyone have a picture of the one Foretravel used?

The lack of ground wires in that bundle is still a puzzle, but perhaps it/they are hidden on the other side of the cabinet wall and I just haven't found them yet. Not a big problem tho.

Nice. Looks like by 2003, they added more wiring than in the 2002s. They couldn't run those 4 switches and a clock with only 4 wires. Maybe someone with a 2001 or 2002 U320 can tell me what they have overhead in their coaches?

I think I have the generator wiring puzzle figured out, but there seems to be a typo and a variation in labeling of the wires. The Dyna-Gen Auto Start chart I have (A-6682, Rev A) labels the front start/stop set of wires as "GEN RD FRT" and "GEN SW FRT". But it shows the 2 rear generator start/stop wires as EACH being labeled "GEN SW RR". It looks like a typo and the rear pair should really be noted on the chart as "GEN RD RR" and "GEN SW RR". The GEN SW FT and the "real" GEN SW RR wires have no voltage and my wire labeled RED RR is powered, just like the drawing's front GEN RD FRT and what it mislabeled as the second GEN SW RR wire.

The variation I note is that the drawing says "RD", but my wire says "RED" on the one(s) that carries voltage. Everything else seems to fit. Now I just have to find the location of that latching relay to see if my GEN SW RR wire is connected there. Shouldn't be too hard, but if anyone knows where it is, please chime in.

I will keep hunting for the ground for the Clock wire. Thanks for the pictures, Michelle!

That 4th, unlabeled wire is likely for one of the lighting circuits, but will probably remain a mystery to me as FT only has one latching relay for lighting in my coach, and that is for the main light in the LR area. Maybe a 2002 has only one more switch beside the generator?

Here is our 2002 u320. Small switch is genny start/stop. Middle is alarm clock. Bottom is our intellitec light switches. First photo is flipped.

Howdy Brad, Our '00 U320 had a small cabinet light inside the overhead cabinets above the bed. I wonder if that may be the unlabeled wire? Anyway, I removed the cabinet light (it was less than useful) and used the circuit to power a 12vdc Ceiling fan and power the TireTraker TMS booster.

Thanks Tom and Bill. I don't know anything about the Intellitech light switches and have no experience with them. Maybe they use only one wire to effectively carry multiple signals?

Looks like I will just try to add the generator start and clock once I am positive of the wiring. If I really need light, I can use the bedside swing-arm easier than trying to re-engineer something that complex. I appreciate the picture!!!!

Thanks Dave. I already have a ceiling fan...but I am not sure where that wiring is.

I think I am gonna need a mirror to get back inside and check for more wiring. The fact that the 4th WHITE wire doesn't carry any voltage is what puzzles me as to what it might be for. I can understand that the switched WHITE GEN wire would be without voltage. Maybe with my mirror I will be able to find the code on that wire and see what i should be with Michelle's wire list.

Maybe C25 BDRM Switch for the docking lights? (from our B=2179)

Strange, that area is the same as on my B-2198 drawing. Hmmm. I don't recognize what that symbol is that C25 is going into...some sort of relay before the main relay? And I don't see where C25 BDRM SW goes to complete the circuit. It looks like a +12 volts applied there would turn on all docking lights on both sides thru the relays on the left, but the only +12 volts back there is the GEN RD RR or the C107 clock wire.

A mirror didn't help me see anything. I could not see any markings on that 4th wire at all. I appreciate all the effort, Michelle.
