'02 U320 Tag axle or single axle

Foretravel changed the 40' model U320 from a single axle with a GCVW of 44k to a tag axle with a GCVW of 52k.

 

Does anyone know if there is an axle weight problem or other problem with the single axle 2002 U320 models or why the change was made?[/quote]

Pete,

When I bought my coach, I was shopping for a 40' U320.  When I weighed the coach(non-slide) I found it had barely 2000# carrying capacity with full fuel and full water.  Adding a slide made the situation worse I suspect, forcing the company into the tag.

Welcome to the forum, many here can help with info and finding your new Foretravel.

He reports the tag axles were first added in Oct. 2001 to the U320's and GV320, 40's.

On this page he lists weights.  The tag added a huge increased capacity.
Foretravel Vehicle Weight

I looked at my weight rating for the 1998 U295, and see we are rated for 31,000, but full fuel, water, propane and our stuff, we are only 28,400.  We can add our toad, and be below the coach capacity, and no where near our max, of 36,000.

I just posted my weights, and on my 40" single slide U-320 with everything full and the black/gray empty, storage stuffed to the gills, I have about 1,000 lbs. excess capacity below GVW. (and I have residential refrigerator, with tile floors, which are both heavier than the average coach.

Add a slide or two and that is probably why they went to the tag.

Love the 40" storage without the tag, most think tag is a little more stable, but I love mine.

I have a 42 foot double sled with tag. Would not get another coach without a tag.  At 42 foot I have the same storage as the 40 s and I have much more ccc.
