Shurflo 5.7 AGAIN

Shurflo 5.7 installed at Innovative Coach in July was slowly putting out less and less pressure, then it blew a fuse.  Then it dies.
Surely Shurflo could be improving these pumps.  Since they are replacing them under warranty I can't b.... too loud even tho it is a PITA.

Ask Shurflo to replace it with 4008 and end the 5.7 problem cycle. Call them directly. Sometimes they just want the label from the old pump. A 'broken' 5.7 usually has a bad circuit board in the base. Connecting power directly to motor through the mechanical pressure switch on the front, bypassing the circuit board will give you a spare pump for transferring water or be used for motorhome as a constant speed pump.

Barry, When I asked Pedro, the customer service rep to replace this pump with the newer one he said They would have to inspect this pump and that they could only replace it with another 5.7, last time they wanted label only so now I have to ship broken one to them and wait til they ship another one.  I have another pump so I am not out of business but I have lost all confidence in Shurflo.
Pedro at first insisted that I return it to the point of purchase, I bought it  in Wichita so this was not an option, he then told me to go to CW, CW last summer told me that they do not warrent Shurflo pumps. Great way to do business ain't it ?

I don't have an answer to your dilemma Gary. I would hope that Shurflo would have some higher level person that would see the light. Letting them know you are aware that the 5.7 has a history of problems and you need to be done with the 5.7. They are quite aware of their mess they are having with the 5.7.

By the way if you are in southern CA, a stop at their office may also solve the problem.

Sorry you are having a continuing problem.

I live in Calif and I went by there and they replaced it over the counter and gave me a free 4008 to try out. I have also replaced the 5.7 for a like 5.7 over the counter at a Camping world and a vendor at Quartzsite.

Gary,

I have gone through 6 of these pumps till I could change them in my sleep. I ran into the same kind of stuff calling the California 800#.

One day I called the number in Indiana and got this guy.

      FAX (574) 264-2169

He was great to deal with. Never had to send him the pump just gave him the serial number. He told me to clip the wires and throw the old one in the garbage. He finally persuaded me to try the 4008 back in the fall of 2009 and it has worked fine since I installed it. He seems pretty knowledgeable about the pumps and the problems.

A friend has contacted him since then with problems on her 5.7 and he helped as well. Hopefully, he is still there.

Sofa just got removed today to get a new upholstery. While I have easy access to fresh water pump (build 6/93), even thou it works just fine I was thinking to replace it with a quieter new one. Original one is a Shurflo 2088-403-144 / 40psi / 2.8 gpm.

I found a " SHURflo 4008-101-E65 3.0 Revolution Water Pump" on Amazon Amazon.com: SHURflo 4008-101-E65 3.0 Revolution Water Pump: Automotive
This one  3.0 GPM and 55 PSI.

I see some folks are using this one. Do you all think I can replace the 2088 model with 4008 model or should I call Foretravel and/or Shurflo to  make sure ?

Thank you,
AL

My notes show I put in a 4048, after some reading and suggestions.  The two pumps you have talked about have about the same flow rate, the newer one better pressure.

As I told you yesterday, I kept my old one as a spare.  Some one on the forum did the same, and modified it to allow it to be used to fill their water tank from non pressurized water sources.

Don't know what to think about all this talk about the 5.7 pump . Last two coaches have that pump and have not had  (any)--(none) or even a hint of trouble . There must be a model change along there somewhere . Now if you mention Flo Jet, that if a different ball of wax . I do a fair amount of spraying here on the farm and most ATV mounted sprayers come with Flow Jet pumps . I always have to change them as they fail after very short hours of use , to Shurflo , and I always get 5.7 model . I have one that only pumps used engine oil hot or cold  to and from collection tank . Did I get the only good pumps Shurflo ever made ?          Brad Metzger

For those in cold climes, that spare pump is perfect for 'pumping in' your antifreeze from your normal water hookup. Isolate and drain the hot water heater (if you don't have aquahot). spring clip connectors and a momentary on switch. Take an old water hose and mock it up. Mine (provided by the previous owner) has never been used...

Mr. Head,

What a great idea, as getting the winterizing antifreeze into the coach has had some funny stories.  Someone reported standing on the picnic table with a hose, funnel, gallon of fluid, and pouring.  Seems sitting on a stool, using your pump idea, seems so easy, one could have an adult beverage in their other hand.
