HH Slideout problem

This morning when it was time to leave, we tried to put in the slideout room.  I started in and jerked several times before stopping about 7" short of full retract.  My wife did not take her finger off the retract button and after about 30 secs it finished retracting and the pins locked in place.  I don't plan to try to extend the room until we get to San Antonio tomorrow where we will be until next week.

We had 3 5000# pressure switches that were leaking, replaced last week at FOT.  They were seeping out the end where the electrical wire exits the switch.  The room has been extended twice since then and the second retract was the only sign of problems.  The room was out for a week before we tried the retract this morning.  There is no sign of any leaks or problems with the three switches that were replaced (visible inspection).

Does anybody have any suggestions before I hit the extend button the next time?

Thanks,

Rich

Gotta love our 2002 systems.

I have 2 thoughts:
1.  How is the fluid level, and was it correctly checked with the room EXTENDED (the various years are checked differently...some are checked in, some out, but our 2002s are checked EXTENDED)?
2.  I personally would not try to extend it again until I was somewhere that I could remain for a week if I had to.

Another thought...I remember James Triana telling me when I replaced a leaking hose that I should run the slide a couple of times and the air (introduced by the new hose) would purge itself out of the system.  Maybe all is fine now and that was caused by the air introduced with your new switches getting purged out?  I have been recently examining my documentation and recall seeing the time limit on our pump motors is 4 minutes...then they need to be allowed to cool.  So an extra 30 seconds shouldn't have been too awful on the system...presuming the motor was running while she had her finger on the button.

Brad,

Thanks for the input.  I'm waiting until this afternoon because we will be in San Antonio for about 12 days.  If it does cycle out, I'll run it in and out a few times to see if air is the problem and I'll also check the fluid level.  I had checked it just a few weeks ago.

Where do you check the fluid level for the slide? I am away from my coach this week but I would like to check it soon. Not retracting is a fear I have so I would like to learn as much about the system as I can. As a new owner (March) I am trying to go through every system before we hit the road in January.

Page 5 of the HWH Manual includes:
"PUMP RUN TIME
Pump motors used with HWH leveling systems and room extension systems come in 3 different diameters; 3", 3.7" and 4.5".  Contact the vehicle manufacturer or HWH for help with identifying the motor size. It is important that any time the pump runs for more than four minutes with a 3" motor; or six minutes with a 3.7" or 4.5" motor that the motor is allowed to cool for thirty minutes before continuing. Continuous operation of the pump motor without allowing the motor to cool can damage the motor. For cold weather information see "COLD WEATHER OPERATIONS" below.

"The HWH systems with a computer processor monitor the pump run time and will turn the pump off if the run time exceeds a specified time. This time can vary with different systems. Due to available electronics or system design, the pump run time programs will also vary. Leveling systems and room extensions that are not controlled by a system processor have no pump run time protection. DO NOT run the pump more than four or six minutes without allowing the pump motor to cool for thirty minutes."

The fluid level on my 2002 is a big chrome cap on top of the fluid tank...at the back of the motor/solenoid/hose junction.  In the picture below, you can see the chrome cap in the back, left side of picture.  It serves as a dipstick.  Remember, 2002 front rooms are to be checked with the slide extended, not retracted.  One of the manuals I have state differently, but Barry's listing is accurate:  Room Positioning for Checking Oil Level in the HWH Hydraulic Reservoir

From HWH:  "To check the oil supply, remove the breather cap from
the top of the hydraulic oil reservoir. The oil level should be
approximately one inch below the top of the reservoir when
adequately filled."

I would think air as the first issue. You might have worked it out already but I remember mine took a while.

Thanks for all the inputs.  WIFI has been limited here so sorry for the late update.  Got here and ran the room a couple of cycles with no problems.  I'm going for the air in the line and hoping for the best.
