1989 "U" model number help

I searched here and BarryBeam site and couldn't find my answer.  From what I can read up on, to tell what "U" model your GV is it would be the last 3 digits of the model number on the build plate. Mine ends in 300 so I assumed that my unit is a U300. Now I am second quessing that because from what I have read in 1989 the U300's were Unihomes.  I have a non-Unihome model.  Could a 1989 GV ORED be a U300? Other than it not being a Unihome I don't see any other options that mine doesn't have other than maybe a trash compactor....Thanks for you input

I always understood the O in the beginning was for Oshkosh chassis.  The 300 number would be for the load, i.e. 30,000 capacity.

There are "U" for unihome and unicoach, and GV for Grand Villa, structure style.  In later years, maybe into 1993 Foretravel was still buying and building Oshkosk O series coaches on those purchased Oshkosk frames.

Another difference is the Oshkosh cargo doors are bottom hinged with locks at the top of the doors.  Unihome doors are top hinged and bottom of door locks.

Hope I am correct, as there are lots of small differences in models, years and frames or structure.  Still miss my GV styling, and tambor cabinet doors.

That makes sence to me Dave thanks for the input...after all the numbers it has ORED300
none of the numbers are indicators of any model numbers

I think that some of the numbers after the build number, are the engine and transmission combination.

IF yours is a U300 you will have the large bays that go all the way thru from one side to the other.

Thank you all for your help...One more thing I love about this forum.. not only has everyone been helpful but no one jumps on board critiquing someone for a lack of knowledge. I love learning about our FT and everyone else's. Those of you that have been FT folks for a longtime aren't harsh on us that are just starting. I look forward to owning a true U300 maybe after we retire.

Yes, the forum members have always been lots of help to all those questions.  Certainly have helped me.  More often with something I read to a question I have not even had to ask, yet.

I met a couple in a 88 or 89, and they had been full timing for 8 years, and they were very happy still in their Foretravel.  They said they were on the look out all the time, just had gotten so spoiled by their Foretravel style and quality.  Had been to several RV shows, and seen little to cause them to want to update to a newer SOB.

I was always wondering what the difference was between a 89 G/V and a 89 Unihome,

The door hinges and the bays that go all the way through, So easy, when you know,

Just reading the threads on here, answer most of my questions, They even give me extra questions to ask,

I also love the way no one jumps on you for Spelling Mistakes, Dumb Questions, Etc Etc,

Every one is exceptionally helpfull,

Especially to me as I am in another country where these Coachs are very few and far between, and seeing another one is like winning the Lotto, and touching another one here, Its near Miraculous, Hahahahahaha

So I have to rely on Piccys and this Forum, and the friendly people on here to assist me on getting to know my Coach,

With out you lot, I would be up the Creek with out a paddle,

An ORED (Oshkosh Rear Engine Diesel) cannot be a U300. Different chassis
