Allison 4060 Transmission Service`

I did a search and found the filter numbers and the new 668 Fluid and can be ordered on Amazon.  My question is;  does anyone pull the pan itself and clean out the residue that is normally found in the bottom of the pans?  Is this something that most don't do or it should be done.  Same with the oil in the converter.  When I was working as a mechanic on early GM cars, we not only changed the transmission fluid, but drained the pan, replaced filters and drained the converter which holds quite a bit of fluid in of itself.  What say ye out there in knowledge land?  Thanks in advance!

I couldn't see any way to drain the converter but did drain the retarder cooler. The residue I have seen in the auto's lately when I change the trans filters is just a black layer that is thinner than paint nothing that would be a problem. There haven't been drain plugs in converters for many years.

No, have never pulled the "pan". Pulling both filters and replacing is really all you need to do unless you find something questionable (like metal) inside.

I was going to pull the pan to fix the oil level indicator when I serviced it last year and the Allison
Dealer told me it's a big job and if you have a dip stick don't bother. I thought about the draining
torque but as there wasn't many miles on the trans since it was serviced last I didn't bother.
