Front Step Refurb

I removed the front step and had it powder coated along with the hinge and kick plate. It turned out nice. I only wish I had taken a picture of the rust prior to the powder coating. What a big difference. I wanted to post a few pictures so people could see the step stripped down. You can see all the pitting from the rust but it should be rust free for years now with the coating.

Mark did you drill any drain holes to stop water collecting?? There are pictures of mine somewere on forum as I did that 2 yrs ago and it was also a mess inside

Where did you have the powder coating done?

Did you strip it or did they clean it up as well as powder coat?

If you don't mind sharing, what did it cost?

John, Yes I drilled a few holes where Rance at Extreme told me to drill them in the cover.

Brett, I had them media blast the works and powder coat in matt black. It cost $45.00 and here is the location.

Nice work!

I did a similar project in the spring, but with hand tools, Ospho to clean and prep the metal for paint.  Then drilled the holes as Rance suggested.  Resealed everything but used a non skid material from Lowes.

Typical of the excellent work you do Mark.   ours was pretty bad too, and when I pulled the step box out, I could see that there were Siamese holes where someone broke a few of the screws off in the holes, so they just located new ones right next to them. A few were stripped because there wasn't enough metal around the hole. Fixable, but it did push me towards the new step conversion...

Xtreme did a similar refurbishment of our step a couple of years ago. They painted rather than powder coated. The refurbishment stopped rusting that probably would have destroyed the step by now.

Mark I did mine last summer. Mine was too far gone to save, got a new one from FT and had it powder coated.
