Engine diagnostic to PC?

While looking for something else, I found a small device that looks like it is an adapter to go from the engine diagnostic plug to a PC. It has two rows of six each flat pins that match up with the diagnostic plug by the driver's left knee. The other end has two rows of small, round pins, seven in one row and eight in the other, that sure look like an old PC port. Might this be useful for connecting a computer to that diagnostic port, or is it, like the coach, 1990's technology, and not useful with a new computer?

Brett W will be able to answer that one but I would imagine that it is not exactly the same as a pc one and fits the engine make diagnostic tool only ??
