Filter Issue to Watch For

I was changing fuel and coolant filters today and found that my secondary fuel filter was damaged. The other fuel filter is up high and protected but this one hangs down pretty low. It looks like it scraped on something but I can't imagine what. Sure glad it didn't puke out fuel while running. Anyhow, just something to keep an eye on for those of you with the M11 engine.

I suspect that is the PRIMARY fuel filter, and therefore the one with 10-30 micron element.

At least in most cases the primary has the drain on it.

Remember:  Fuel tank, primary fuel filter, lift pump, secondary fuel filter, engine/injection pump.

Thanks, Brett. I'm thinkin' you are correctomundo as that filter is a 10 micron filter. Both of the filters, however, have drains. The other one has a 12 volt priming pump.

I would trace the fuel lines-- you sure want the proper micron filters in the proper "order".

A 10 followed by a 2 or 5 is fine.

A 2 or 5 followed by a 10 is NOT.

The filter in the photo is a Parker 700 Series (790R30). It replaced the original Winn (30 micron, the one with the O-rings) and was installed in the same location. As I indicated in my first post, it's out of the way.

Re the other one (primary probably), our ISM had the same filter located in the same place as this M11.

That filter mounts on the passenger side of the engine underneath, so it is lower than the pan and can get hit by road debris and have the drain knocked off and that will stop you for sure, have had experience with that when a road gator broke off the drain on the filter. These are original equipment filters which come after the water separator. The old wins system probably quit and was replaced by the racor which is mounted up high at the rear of the coach

Thanks, not having the 95 300SE, it seems sort of goofy having the filter mounted so low, but that is just my dumbass thinking.  Guess I am not up on the NEW thinking.
Happy with the old Winn/Parker/Racor 200200 system, I have great access for parts and I like it, because it works great.
