ALLISON key pad

After bring the coach out of winter storage I noticed the key pad for the transmission is requiring a lot of pressure to push and activate the function buttons.

Could the keypad need to be cleaned or does it require replacement when the buttons require too much effort to work easily.

Where is a good source for the pad?

This is common behavior after a storage period, especially in low ambient temperatures.  Try it for a couple weeks before making a decision.  If it doesn't improve, you'll probably have to replace the pad.

When my Keypad  went south a few years ago I was not able to find a new one.  I did find a rebuilt one thru an Allison service shop.  The one they found did not have the soft rubbery feel of the old one.  Apparently Allison made a heavy duty version for garbage trucks and rough service, mine now has a hard surface and requires some effort to push the pads in, not a real problem, just aggravating.

If keypad is cold, warm it a LITTLE with a hair dryer.

There are places that rebuild Allison keypads and ECU computer, one place is well known.
Transmission Instruments John, owner knows his stuff, has lots of experience and is highly recommended.

Barry, Thanks,  I had forgotten about John, he rebuilt my Allison ECU and the price was really reasonable.

You can always take it out and clean it too. Should help. There are a couple of threads on the process.

I had the same problem with my keypad. Cleaned it last year, as is illustrated by Jor, and it now works like new. The job took about 30 minutes, as I recall.

What great photos. I even see the wonderful Feit Electric flashlight that we all like a lot.

What were the symptoms of your keypad problem and what did you do to make it work much better?

Can you tell us what you did after opening the Allison keypad? Did you use anything to clean contacts? Did you find any dirt or anything that caused problems?
