Running hot

Well. I posted that my FT was running a bit hot and thought it was the wind. I have had that with heavy winds before. Well it was getting worse as the trip went on. I was on the way to ac and the transmission was hotter then the engine with no retarder.  It is the radiator. Not found that FT had a new one in stock so I went over and bought it.  Today and tomorrow are radiator days I think.

John, Make sure the transmission het exchanger is in good shape.  It is the round tube like thing Just inside of and towards the bottom of the radiator.  If that thing fails you get transmission fluid in the coolant and coolant in the transmission.  Very bad!

john, I had to get radiator on our 01 40ft.  The replacement from FOT needed some bracket change/revisions to fit it properly.  FYI

WOW, looks like a belt or fan blade let go sometime in the past!! At least you can see the fins. Our radiator was plugged completely with oil and the old crumbling powdery insulation. It looked like a very shiny, wet wall. I think the two electric fans on the backside of the radiator kept the engine from overheating.

If you find a good pro radiator shop, keep their address because you will need their services at some point in time.

I used to buy new a long time ago.  Re-coring was MUCH easier and quicker than chasing around looking for a new radiator.  I rebuilt the radiator on my PETE/3406 CAT for less than half of what the dealership wanted for a new piece (copper and not aluminum btw.)  pc

True about recoring but this old one was pretty well used up.  It was not hit by anything either. You touch it and it flakes away and if you sprayed rain water in and it would just flake away too.

I'm referring to an entirely new core.

The new radiator has a different and stronger cradle though.
