Remove brake caliper 1998 unihome

How do we remove the brake caliper on a 1998 u320 unicoach

 take wheels off first, then remove pins.

Ron, be advised the calipers are HEAVY. I use a floor jack remove the top slide pin then lay the caliper back on the jack and pull the lower pin. If you are just changing pads you don' need to remove the caliper completely. You ca also go to Meritor's web site and search for MM4, if my memory serves me right that is the service manual for our air disk brakes

For the front:
#1 raise coach up, put in safety blocks
#2 break tire nuts loose, jack up and put safety blocks under axle, remove wheel
#3 disconnect air hose from brake chamber
#4 remove cotter key in castle nut that hold the slide pins in
#5 loosen the castle nut a few turns, it doesn't have to come off (the bolt is spring loaded, has a notch in it that latches into a notch in the slide pin.  Once the pin is out the castle nut/bolt will come out.)
#6 push in on the castle nut/bolt and then the pin should slide out, a 3/8 coarse thread bolt will screw into the pin or use a slide hammer if the pin is stuck.

With both pins removed you can then lift it out, but as mentioned, they are HEAVY.  I'd guess at least a 100 lbs.  A lot easier for two people if you really have to remove them completely.

The back wheels are more complex, you have to deal with the spring brake chambers, the dual wheels, and less accessibility.
