Awning Lights....how do you attach awning lights?

After failing to figure out how to attach our strand of RV patio lights to our awning, I had pretty much just given up.  Then I was perusing the forums and noticed Steve & Ginny Hill's Avatar.  It shows exactly what I was trying to do.

So, Steve & Ginny and everyone else how do you attach lights to your awning?

I have seen and have a couple of clips which will attach to the awning to hold the lights but I do not use them with the auto retract feature.  I never leave the coach with the awning out.  Learned my lesson the hard way with my last coach. Left out and sky clear. Within three hours it came a big rain storm and filled it with about 100 gallons of water. Like to never have gotten it straight.  James at Extreme got it back into shape.  I need to figure out how to turn the auto retract off.

Dan, on my 2003 U320 behind the false back over this windshield passenger side is the control box for the Gerard awning. In that control box there is a Rheostat for the wind speed indicator.  You could do one of two things, turn the rheostat all the way up and it would not retract the awning or simply disconnect one of the wires from the rheostat.  David

David:  Mine is the zip dee auto awning with the arms.  The control box is in the large bay on the passenger side.  Not sure where the little air propeller on the roof fits in to all this.  Just know it is to take the awning into retract mode if the wind moves it too fast.  Never had happen as I never leave the awning out in the wind. Has anyone put LED lights under his awning in a strip at the top across on the inside fixed so light up when the awning is out.  I am sure you have seen these on the newer awnings. Great for night time
If so they appear small so should not interfere with the roll up. How would you get power  it??

I ran a small 2 conductor wire through the same hole the cable for the awning motor uses. This has enough slack in it to handle the strecth for the first few inches of travel, then I stitched it into the edge of the awning fabric (you might get away with grounding the LED strips to the awning and use a smaller single lead, but I am an electrical Luddite and don't want to give those dern electrons any more exuses to misbehave than I have to... ).This powers up 2 5 meter rows (handy, that, just the right length for this awning) of waterproof LED's, all 1200 of 'em, that put a serious amount of light under the whole awning area. A cute little rocker switch installed next to the awning controls and you're almost there. I say almost because I found that even my small diameter power lead made the awning roll up a bit crookedly, so I stitched a dummy wire down the other edge to even it out. A bit of hotmelt or krazy glue to make sure the LED strips stay put, and job done.

I leave my miniature Budweiser bottle awning lights in the package at Camping World. Do not have to worry about power source, awning retraction, high winds, disturbing other campers with late night turn-off, head knocking, or bulb replacement. Works for me.

sorry, scuba guy. Been away from the forum for a few days. The ones Dave and Nancy told you about work well. Mine are slightly different, but I think theirs are better.
