Under Cabin Bins

Sometimes while traveling a door opens on the under cabin bins.  Any ideas on how to resolve this issue?  Our model is a 1996 U320.  Do these latches need replaced over time?

Before leaving, walk around the RV and give each door a push.  Some will click.  Then give them a tug to make sure they are latched.

Greg (at Xtreme) referred to it as the "Foretravel Push"; standing with your leg next to the bin door at one end of it, push until you hear a click; repeat for each end of all doors.  It's particularly important to check/close the door for the propane tank area on the 96 U320.  I had the interesting experience of seeing the bay door up and the slide-out drawer open in my right mirror as I turned left on a freeway during my first year... :o

Not sure on a 1996 but I know on our 2003 Steve has adjusted the pins/latches so they're fully-engaged when closed.  Sometimes the pins get a little worn, too, and they can be replaced.

The previous own taught me to do that and now it's a ritual!

I am self taught, after being told by a passing motorist (hand signals) that my port diving plane was extended.

I forget who it was that taught me the FORETRAVEL SHUFFLE, may have been Roxanne at FT of TENN. Place your knee at each end of the door and bump, it clicks, its locked.

When I purchased my coach from Jeff & Carol,  Carol demonstrated the "Foretravel Bump" for me.  Always check they are locked and bumped before each move.  I, like Grant, have experienced the dreaded self opening slide out.  Sure maked it interesting.  That's why a pre-flight check list is a good idea.  We had one posted for all our operators.  Whether they followed it is another matter.

Basement latch pins not only wear but fatigue crack and eventually break off.  I carry spares and check the pins very carefully whenever I have a door pop open.
