Storing RV while traveling

We can't be away for more than about two weeks at a time.  We plan on taking longer trips and leaving the RV in storage while we fly home for meetings, then returning to continue the trip.  I am sure someone has done this, do you have in recommendations on types of places to keep the RV when away from home base.

Steve,

Post here or on other RV websites such as FMCA's website (FMCA Motorhome Forums asking about storage in the area you are considering leaving the coach.

As an example, we store our coach in a place with 15 amp power, indoors and lockable.  No idea if they currently have places open, but if they do, it would be a reasonable place to leave it.

That certainly sounds as if it would be a good way to handle the situation.

Some campgrounds have a separate area for storage usually at a much cheaper rate. The campground we are in charges $5 a day with a 30amp hookup. You just can't stay in the coach. Other campgrounds will give you a discount if you are not in the coach. Talk to the owners or host and see if they will give you a deal. Sometimes depends on how busy they are. Probably no discount at peak times.

I have left mine at airport oversize parking lots for up to a week. Â I have left it at storage sites that I google to find. Â Usually I work a deal with a campground that will store it near a maintenance shed (or a undesirable site) and let me plug in for a monthly fee (often $50 a month, but at times as low as $25 a month) - they know that the only electricity is for battery charging. Â Campgrounds are my go - to first choice.

Great idea for storage.  My todo list is a trip to Alaska; however the drive is too long for us so we were thinking of driving to Seattle, storing the coach and taking the boat up and back.  I know some on this forum have done this.  Just thought of this recently so not much planning done yet.  DAN

Dan, I sold my FT so we are going to AK this week by plane and boat. Air to Fairbanks, Bus and train etc to Whittier, then cruise to Vancouver, I would much rather be making this trip in a FT but I have to make do with what I have. Graduation trip by my Daughter for my Grandson is turning into a group of 11 , family and friends.

Dan, Once you are in Seattle you are halfway to AK it seems.  Drive the FT, take all the time in the world and see a lot more of AK by road than I will in the two weeks that we are in AK.  Wish I would have done this trip years ago by FT. Or if money is no object take the FT on the ferry from Vancouver to Whittier, I have no idea what the cost would be but it would not be cheap.  We considered this but at the time we had dogs and you cannot stay in the FT while underway.
