Aux Compressor Desiccant Bowl Removal

Can someone please tell me, in specific terms, how to remove the aux compressor bowl guard and the clear desiccant bowl. The part no. for the bowl is Wilkerson X06-02-000. I have found threads that say to  remove the bowl, check for cracks, etc. but no instructions on how to actually remove the guard and the bowl. I think that I have an air leak at the bowl and I wish to inspect the o ring and the glass bowl. I removed the guard by pressing the release and turning the guard counter clockwise. However, I cannot remove the desiccant bowl. And, I cannot get the guard to go back on. Thank You.

Steve says there isn't a mechanical fastening of the actual desiccant bowl - that's why the guard is there; it's what holds the bowl on.

To get the bowl off, gently rotate it back and forth and slowly slide it down.

To reinstall the guard, you might need to try a couple of different positions, but it's just a bayonet and about a 1/8th turn.

  Very good video of desiccant bowl removal! I remember the first time I removed mine- lost almost 50% of the dessicant  when the bowl suddenly released! See one,do one teach one  I guess!

Thanks for the video.
That is how I thought it was supposed to work. However, after removing the guard, I had to take a strap wrench to remove the desiccant bowl. And, while looking up inside the housing with the bowl still in place, I could see that the O-Ring gasket was pulled away from the bowl and hanging down. After removing the bowl, and trying to replace it in the housing, I never could get it to go far enough into the housing to put the guard back on.
I am going to try and purchase a new O-Ring and other parts to see if  I can get it back together.
I just had the desiccant changed at FOT in August. It is now pink. This was our first trip to a campground after returning from FOT in August.

I purchased a new Wilkerson X06-02-000. I replaced the old bowl and guard with the new bowl and guard. The bowl went into the upper housing with little effort and the new bowl guard went on just like in the video.
The new bowl and guard fixed my air leak. The 12 volt aux compressor ran about two minutes, then shut off. The N/O purge valve blew off just like it was supposed to.

Glad it was a simple fix!  Sounds like the old one or at least its o-ring was the problem.  Our desiccant bowl lasted 9 years before we had to replace it, so if yours was original it served you well.

I don't think that the Aux compressor on our 99' U270 has any desiccant in the bowl, or a guard for that matter. the bowl comes off by unscrewing a threaded plastic collar. There are water droplets in the bowl but as far as I could tell with some soapy water, there are no air leaks. I don't yet have a clear understanding of how the various electric control valves work, but I do know this thing is very slow to raise the coach to any measurable degree. On manual, your finger will be numb before you see any results! I think I will be upgrading this compressor to a more powerful unit... anybody done this mod? Part numbers for the compressor and and an appropriate air dryer set up would be appreciated. If not, I guess I will have to be the pioneer on this mod...

The Desiccant Dryer is a separate unit than the one in your picture. On our coach the Desiccant Dryer is next to the bowl you have, only separated by the air line fittings.  The part number is Wilkerson X06-02-000. I purchased my new one at Grainger. After the desiccant dryer is another bowl. I am not sure of its purpose. There are pictures of these parts in Beam Alarm.

That's the condensate bowl.  At the bottom is the N/O solenoid which makes the "psssshhhhhewwww" sound when the aux compressor unloads upon shut off.  I don't know what year FT may have added the desiccant bowl to the setup.

Mines like Don's ,it won't raise the coach at all in manual , I can hear it run . Doesn't appear to put out much air.

Thanks Michelle... That N/O Solenoid does what it is supposed to do then. It certainly will be possible to add the desiccant bowl and a more powerful compressor to increase the responsiveness for manual leveling (and possibly for other misc. compressed air use). I will be looking at doing this when I install the new inverter when we get back to home base. That is when I will be relocating the inverter, aux pump, and adding the solar controller etc.

You should first attack all air leaks. The compressor is a well engineered and built unit. I wouldn't remove it. If you want, you should just add another compressor that fills your wet tank.

Compressing air takes a fair amount of power and thus energy. Anything bigger is going to suck the juice unless you are plugged in or generator is on.
