Not for sale at the moment (split from Re: 1994 Foretravel U-240 for sale)

For the time being the coach is no longer for sale.  I was going to edit the original post but I guess I don't know how so I'll add this post.  Thanks for looking.

I found that the "house" water pump is not pumping water, despite making pumping noises.

Make sure the fresh water tank fill valve is fully closed.  If open, even partially, your water pump will run but you'll never build any pressure.  Don't ask how I know...

Ernie, I drove my coach to Camp Ernie just to have new flooring installed.  Right after I arrived, my hydraulic pump decided it had had enough.  It took a lot of doing, but I eventually found a hydraulic repair service in Fort Worth who rebuilt the pump.  Also, my old fridge (Norcold or Dometic?) picked that week to give up the ghost.  You and Dave Cobb replaced it with a Samsung from Lowes.  It was an eventful week.

Ernie, I hope you and "what's her name" are doing well.

Cakj, I'll have to check on that fresh water fill valve.  I think it is closed, but I'm not positive.  I wouldn't have thought it would affect the pump discharge pressure, but that just shows how wrong I can be.  Thanks.

Ernie, I think (actually, I hope) you know that my flippant remark about Brenda was because you and she joked about her being "What's her name" all week long while I was there.  I enjoyed my visit too much, and both you and Brenda showed me way too much hospitality for me to ever be intentionally disrespectful.

Cajk, closing the fill valve solved the pump problem.  Thanks!  Now, my question is "why?".

Glen,

Glad that worked...same thing happened to me.

The way I understand the system is this: your shore water supply hose connects into your water system.  If your fill valve is closed, your water system can build pressure.  The pressure can be supplied by either the shore water connection, or the on-board pump.  If your fill valve is open, the pressure in the pipes is "relieved" back into your fresh water tank.  Turning on the pump with the fill valve open simply pumps the water in a continuous closed loop: out of the tank, through the pump, into your water pipes, and back into the tank.

Somebody else may have a better explanation...

Yes, with fill valve open, you are "recirculating" water from tank through pump and back to tank.
