Shop certified for Meritor brake service

Does anyone know of a list of certified Meritor brake service shops. Ideally a reasonable distance from Minneapolis. Rear brakes need pads, and front brakes don't have the helper springs installed. Also need the wrong grease replaced.

If you contact Meritor they will provide you with your local buyers of their products.  I am not sure if there is such a thing as:  "Certified Meritor Brake Service Shop".  I didn't find one,  When I called Meritor about service centers that used their products I chose Peterbuilt.  They did a good job and they advised that I didn't need the rear pads replaced.  They also purged the BAD stuff out of the calipers and put in the GOOD stuff.  Grade 1

Good advice. I have been going to a "Detroit Diesel" shop and they know nothing about Meritor brakes. I'm also going to have the slack adjuster pawls checked. I'm afraid when I told them to check the slack adjusters, they adjusted the slack without removing the pawls, which can damage the pawls and then the brakes won't auto adjust. It seems they are not adjusting, as I have had to adjust the slack myself about a year later.

With no Meritor shop in the Atlanta area I took it on myself to educate one.
I printed out the Meritor manual, went to a small shop and bought lunch for the crew of three and went thru the procedure with them.  The owner was hesitant but I told him that I would watch every step.
They did take more time and when it was all over they expressed gratitude for the training that they would not have got from any other source.
I would have done the brakes myself but my back and legs no longer let me do work like this.

Someone here previously suggested finding where your local fire engines are serviced. My understanding is that many of them use Meritor brakes. I'm not certain, but it may be worth checking.

We were in Anaconda, Mt. when the need struck.  I contacted a few local fire departments and yes they used Meritor Parts but either did them in house or the county did the maintenance.

Another wrinkle to the problem not yet mentioned in this thread is that many shops, including Meritor ones it seems, will not service RVs. A local shop worked on our unit for alignment only, but won't deal with any other RV matters. An out-of-towner forum member (and his Foretravel) were turned away from there, and he needed help as a local Cummins shop had lubricated his brakes (improperly) after being told NOT to lub.

Moral of the story? ........call ahead to a shop to check if they will take your unit, even if they are Meritor approved. It's a jungle out there.

I do not think that you will find a Meritor "Approved" service center.  There are many truck service centers that will work on Meritor brakes.  You just need to contact truck repair shops / service centers, Peterbuilt, Mack, Cummins, etc.  Many service centers do not want to work on RVs because RVs traditionally are hard to work on.  This is not true with our Foretravels and many shops are not familiar with the name sooooo, they don't want to work on them.  We contacted numerous truck repair shops before we found the Peterbuilt shop that ultimately worked on our brakes.  When talking to shops I referred to the specific Meritor Brake model number and name to see if they knew the product.  I often knew more about our braking system then the mechanic / service writer I spoke with.  Try not to be discouraged, know the brake type and be able to discuss the system then you may find it easier to discuss your actual service/repair needs.  Just a thought......  ;D

Howdy John,  I've had my brakes lubed by Keith Risch at MOT and was very pleased with Keith's work.  I have Keith inspect my brakes annually when I'm having engine service at MOT.  Keith is "the man" and is very knowledgeable on RV's and particularly Foretravels.  You won't go wrong going to MOT and requesting Keith.
