Electric bay door latch - '01 U320

The latch on my utility bay door has failed so that it won't unlock with the key or the fob. Does anyone have a source and part number for the electric lock actuator?

I got mine from FT Parts.  It cost $30, but is a configuration that is much easier convert from the original.

Richard, thanks for the hint. I did search but without the key word actuator.

So exact replacements are no longer available. I just ordered a 4-pack of what I believe are good candidates from an eBay seller. Meanwhile I am disconnecting all of mine until I can replace them.

The FT version comes bolted to a galvanized plate, which then has double faced tape on the back.  The holes on the plate are countersunk so the bolt heads are flush with the plate.

When I installed the ebay actuators I ripped off the double sided taped plate and screwed the new actuators into the door (paying careful attention to ensure I used appropriate screw length that only engaged a couple threads and didn't come out the other side!)  It has worked well so far for 3 doors.  This may not work for a non-bus style door in which case double sided tape may be the way to go.

My original actuator was attached to the door with double faced tape plus two screws.  The new actuator has no provision for additional screws unless I were to rip it apart.  The taped part feels very secure.

Try several application of WD-40 working the lock with the key and after it begins to work apply a lock lubricant.  Corrected three locks on my 1998 320.

Lubrication didn't work for me. When I took the actuator apart the gears inside were jammed, with missing teeth. I ordered a 4-pack from ebay. They are not at all like the original ones as they don't have a flat side, so using double-sided tape won't work. They come with a piece of flat metal to which you attach the actuator, then attach the flat stock to the door with sheet metal screws. They work well. I have replaced four actuators and have ordered four more.
