Fuel Filter Systems

With all the recent discussion on Miz Dani  fuel problem, Have any of you ever looked st the Davco 382 filter system? I changes over to this unit 6 yrs ago on my Peterbilt semi. I originally had the racor water separator and spin on filters. All of that was removed and 1 Davco 382 installed. 1 filter to change takes all if about 5 minutes .iver 500,000 miles and no issues. This I d what Freightliner and Detroit Diesel use on the new trucks. Heres a link

We took the factory tour last week while at the Ladies Driving School and I saw one of those filters on a new unit.  Can't really say if it was a Realm or IH-45.  It looks interesting-what are the advantages of this system vs the 2 filter system we have now?  Inquiring minds want to know.

Detroit has used that type filter system for some time.. I never had any issues with it.

I also use a Davco 382 as a direct replacement for primary filter with a 7 micron filter. The secondary filter is the normal caterpillar 2 micron filter. I like to be able to see the filter stage by just looking and any air that might be getting  into the fuel system. I have been using this system for about 2 years and approx 30,000 miles with no issues. ^.^d ^.^d

The advantage is that the fuel level will rise in the dome as media clogs when fuel level rises to top of dome its time to change filter element. It also captures water and a easy drain on the bottom removes it.I had trouble with my racor sucking air and losing my prime. This setup eliminated that and made needless filter changes a thing of the past.

No it does not but it has a built in check valve so you don't lose your prime in the first place.

According to the docs, there is a screw cap on top. You replace the element, tighten the bowl, and then pour in diesel  through the top to prime the element.

Howdy Stump,
  This looks like a great Fuel Filter system.  I'm wondering where you bought your DAVCO 382?  I believe this is same Fuel Filter that NEWELL uses on their coaches.
