Spark Plug Type Connector for Atwood 6-gallon Water Heater

Our water heater worked sporadically no matter how well I cleaned it. Then it stopped entirely... not even a clicking noise trying to start. I looked at it and noticed black marks on the outer door. It looks like the ignition wire - which looks suspiciously like a spark plug wire - was shorting out against the outside door when it was closed. Not sure if this has destroyed the circuit board or not.

Can't find anything that looks like this on the Internet for Atwood. Anyone know a link?

Craig,

Would suggest just going to NAPA or a mower shop and finding something to make it like original. A new Dinosaur board is about $75 and very easy to replace. If you do have to replace it, the Dinosaur has a wait period of 6 to 10 seconds before it sparks. Fooled me for a few minutes.

I had the same problem, went to an RV place down the road, and they *gave* me a similar control board. Heater works fine. I was a bit amazed...

I suspect the board has been blown. Dunno for sure yet, though. Kinda cold to work on the thing. :P

Thanks for the help. This forum rocks!!!

Craig,

Atwood has a trouble shooting page. I removed and cleaned the multi wire blade connector as well as cleaning all the push on connectors. Pulled the screw that holds the module down and cleaned it for a better ground. Kept working but had bad days so I replaced it. Had to drill two extra holes for perfect mounting but easy. Good directions and customer service at Dinosaur. See web page with all their fridge boards as well at: Dinosaur Electronics Home. High quality circuit boards for RV appliances.
