Glendinning Hosemaster Model M hose reel installation

The potable water hose on our 05 U270 is brittle and needs to replaced.  Upon contacting Glendinning service department they advised the hose can't be replace as it is crimped in on the reel; the whole reel must be replaced.  They sell the reel/ hose combo and advised installation was easy.  Has anyone done this swap out and was it novice or pro install?  Our electric reel for the power cord is right next the hose reel. It almost looks like the whole reel assembly with electric rewind must be unbolted to change the reel.  Any thoughts?

It's been several years, but Steve replaced ours which looks identical to your setup.  The FT guys actually recommended doing it ourselves since we could buy the reel cheaper elsewhere and save the installation cost.

You have to undo the 2 wire electrical connections and a fitting on the reel to remove it, and he vaguely recalls only 3 bolts were used and it was mounted with slots so easy-ish to do.

We bought ours through Camping World; I see they still carry them.

ETA so does rvupgradestore.com, at a lower price (check to be sure yours is the 1/2" 35-ft. long model since there is also a 1/2" 50 ft. and a 5/8" 35 ft. model.  CW and RVupgradestore are both a 1/2" 35' model, P/N 05505-12-35 which isn't listed on Glendinning's web site

That's an AWFULLY expensive water hose ! Think I would come up with something to replace it...in th $50 range.

Well, you can buy the Apex hose used on these reels separately. Before I would replace the whole reel assembly, I would at least attempt to remove and replace the hose with a new one, crimped or not. One approach would be to use a ¾" Pex crimp on a cut hose end. I have successfully done this with the ½" potable water hose and the ¾" stainless steel crimps. They are a little to large for typical ½" hose, but the ½" Pex crimps are are too small for ½" hose (thicker walled than regular ½" Pex tubing). With the ¾" cinch clamp, I used some silicone rescue type tape wrapped around the hose to take up some space and give the cinch clamp something to grip. It has worked well for a year or so at city water pressures regulated to 55psi without failure. I did see that although not commonly available at the big box stores, these Pex clamps are available in a ⅝" size and I would think that they should fit just right without having to overwrap the hose. That said, I don't know what sort of hose barb these reels have since I bought a new one and haven't had the need to take it apart, but I would give it a shot if the seals in the reel were still sealing well. Heck even those seals should be replaceable. It does seem absurd to have to toss out the whole thing just because the hose has deteriorated... I will say that although the Glendinning hose reel has worked well, I was disappointed when I saw that the build quality just wasn't up to its price point in my opinion. The Shorepower Cable reel on the other hand, seems to be well built and the cable itself is very supple and of good quality. A much better value than the hose reel. I went with Glendinning for both the hose and Shorepower Cable reels because I could make the form factors of those two work together in the space I had to fit them in.

I just went to the Glendinning website and see that they have the hose reel with hose attached for $132, which while not cheap, is way better than having to replace the whole assembly. Link below;

I was under the impression that you were told you had to buy the whole thing, but after re-reading your post, I see it doesn't say that. I would still be tempted to attach a new hose to the old reel, but less motivated than I would be if I had to pay over $300 for the whole enchilada.

Take a small grinder and cut the metal crimp ring and pull it off ,remove your old hose and use a Gates heat crimp hose clamp on the new hose. They use these on race cars and you can buy them online.

Thanks for the great lead. Could use some of these in the water pump bay where crimping water hoses is near impossible.

Wow! Those clamps look awesome... absolute minimum profile . Expensive, but worth it for many applications. Just have to figure the appropriate size based on the OD of the hose. I will have to get some to try them...
