Re: 1990 Grand Villa Unihome for sale in Yuma Az Reply #5 – March 09, 2015, 11:02:03 am Until 1992, it would be a rear radiator and 300hp 6V-92TA (all are DDEC/electronic engine controls) with a MTB648 Allison transmission. Foretravel didn't raise the hp to 350 until they went to the 746 Allison with it's increased torque capacity and put the radiator on the side for better cooling. The earlier 648 may shift into direct halfway through third gear instead of second but perhaps a rear radiator owner can confirm that.Lots of trade offs here. With the rear radiator, the fan has to be checked to see if it's the model that won't fly apart but a cheap fix unless the fan comes apart. Engine is harder to work on and difficult to R&R the radiator. Low maintenance on the fan drive.Side radiator models have the complicated hydraulic pump/motor/fan system that could (and have) leave an owner stranded with a very expensive bill to fix it and getting the correct parts will depend on the shop's experience. Nice to have the room to work on the engine though. Most all brands of side radiator RVs have had the same problem driving the fans in the past. Both Detroits have more than enough power to satisfy most owners and also get very good fuel mileage. With a late six speed, they would be rockets and get another mpg too, but wish in ...Pierce Quote Selected
Re: 1990 Grand Villa Unihome for sale in Yuma Az Reply #6 – March 09, 2015, 07:29:52 pm Took a closer look today and have the following pictures and comments: The engine is a Detroit V6 and has a rear radiator. One of the pictures is of an air bag which is representative of the others that I could see. Looks questionable to me but others would know better. Has good looking Michelin tires but I didn't check the manuf. date. One photo shows a new roof (not sure what kind it is) over the existing fiber glass. A look inside will make it obvious why the new roof. Inside looks like it has been "rode hard and put away wet" Any other pic's wanted, send me a PM ---- Have a great day ---- Fritz Quote Selected
Re: 1990 Grand Villa Unihome for sale in Yuma Az Reply #7 – March 10, 2015, 01:48:04 am Good looking devil on the outside. Love the stainless bumpers. Bags look sketchy but have seen worse. Roof sealer may have gotten old and cracked letting winter water in with separation between the Fiberglas and the wood. Is that a crack in the front cap?$14,500 OBO means $10,000 will buy it. Probably has water stains by all the windows. If light rust and corrosion, it might make a nice RV. Love the 36 feet. 130K is not many miles.Pierce Quote Selected 1 Likes

And is that spotlight over the cab stock, or after-market? The side view in the first post - it looks like there might be some solar panels on the roof? Quote Selected
Re: 1990 Grand Villa Unihome for sale in Yuma Az Reply #9 – March 10, 2015, 09:16:42 am Here is the page to which John probably referred: 1990 Foretravel U280 SpecificationsI continue to be so grateful to Barry for putting together such a useful web site.It shows the roof-mounted spotlight among the standard CONVENIENCE items. It is my understanding that the SS bumpers were proprietary, rather than adapted from some other vehicle (1990 Ford Bronco headlamps). Re: 1990 Grand Villa Unihome for sale in Yuma Az Reply #10 – March 10, 2015, 11:28:20 am Pierce, if you mean the "line" on top side corner it is the end of the new roof coating and because of the thickness of coating does look like a crack-sort of!JohnH Quote Selected

Wonder if the "new roof" is rolled on as a liquid coating or as a big sheet and then the cut outs made? Can only guess what is underneath. Prospective buyer should talk to the company that did it to ask about the condition before it was put down. The owner may want to talk around that one.Pierce Quote Selected
Re: 1990 Grand Villa Unihome for sale in Yuma Az Reply #12 – March 10, 2015, 02:38:56 pm Fritz was kind enough to look this one over close for me, inside as well. The body is good but inside has had water penetration thru roof as material is hanging off ceiling as well as other musty smells/damage. I was seriously thinking of going to see it but this one could be a real strip to the bones one that really is not worth it. We are stopping to see the 94 in Green Valley on way past tomorrow so we will see what that brings??JohnHps, still have no answer on PPL 2000 GV other than my offer was not accepted--yet? Re: 1990 Grand Villa Unihome for sale in Yuma Az Reply #13 – March 10, 2015, 04:56:57 pm John,The U300 of that year had a vinyl headliner vs the carpet headliner of the 1993 (1992?) and later. It would collect water above until the weight made it sag. Probably took a lot longer to dry out too. Not a pretty picture (or smell). That's why garaged RVs are worth twice as much in so many cases. Stored outside, the roofs always leak somewhere plus the sun kills the decals, etc. Is Banana's Restaurant still in San Carlos? How did the dentist work out in P.V.?Pierce Quote Selected
