Haldex Refurb

A couple of questions on refurbing the Haldex dryer, from the instructions received with the O/H kit.

Item 5. Removing the Plastic Purge Shield ..... Says "Support the heater to insure that it does not fall out of the cavity in the bottom housing." What does the heater look like ? Is this one of those third hand deals, where you need to hold something while putting something on and putting screws in ?

Item 9. Cleaning the interior in bold letters "(Do Not Use Aromatic Cleaning Solvents.)" . What's this, something that doesn't smell ? Is it soap or ???

On the project list.

Dave,

I don't take the purge shield off till the dryer is on the work bench. We unplug the pos. wire and the ground wire is under a bolt that has to be removed. If the pos. wire don't have a plug then just cut the wire and install a plug this will save you a lot of grief in the future if you plan on doing this your self.

As far as cleaning we use Dawn industrial de-greaser  in a sonic cleaner.

Item 5 ... see the picture, the heater ring is that part that looks like it came out of the bottom of an old coffee pot or camp stove, the plastic shield holds it up in place.  You don't want to remove the cover and let that fall since its pretty brittle and then you would be purchasing a different kit as well.

Item 9.  Aromatic Cleaning Solvent ... Well thats almost any solvent that ends in "ene"  like  toluene, xylene,  benzene or probably anything that has the catch all contains petroleum distillates.

Our last refurb was installing a complete factory rebuilt exchange unit.  It seemed priced not a whole lot more than filter and bottom rebuilt kits.

If a person is not sure of what they are doing and do not recognize which part is which, it might be better to buy a Reman' one, but to anyone that can do it they are very simple to rebuild.
I like to know what was done and done right. Not the first time something came from a store and it was faulty, even if they do it all the time.
I have the time and patience.

I hear you John. How many times have I had to re-do something, or ended up paying for someone to learn how to do something ?
