15 amp charge

I have a 89 model 280 and have never upgraded the on board charger.. No indication it over charges but at it's age it could...Going to take the coach to a lake campground this week and leave it for a month.. After tomorrow I wont be there for 7 to 10 day days and wont leave any electrical on but some lights so maybe lookers will think someone is maybe home at night... Thinking of just hooking up a 15 amp automatic charger to keep batteries charged up rather than hooking to the campground 30 amp with on board charger while I'm gone for days.. Sounds like a no brainer but I get paranoid not looking in on my coach daily.. I do plan to upgrade my onboard charger this year.. I just put off fixing something that isn't broke even though it has been in service since 1989. Unless someone tells me don't do it and why I plan on hooking up the 15 amp while away..

I do plan on spending some time there at Lake Greason for spring crappie... School spring break happens down here that starts next Monday and if a fisherman wants a place to park he best get there this week...Going to do some looking at lots for sale there and have over the years... Senior citizens can rent a premium Core of Engineers spot on the water for 9 bucks a night electric and water included... Hard to trade that for a lot to spend money on plus property taxes. You do have to move every 14 days but that's not a deal breaker... Need a pump out by then anyway.

I think I'd turn on two lights and connect the 15-amp charger. Especially if you have a bank of 2 8D wet cell batteries. I don't think a 15-amp "automatic" charger can hurt them over a 7 to 10 day period.

That's my thinking desert rat... darn shame the lack of use I've had with this rig but doing about all I can do and still run our trucks.
