Fridge roof vent cover

Just clearing. 2ft snow of roof  ( no I didn't plan on being here ) when I noticed the two vent covers 2ft x 1ft are brittle and cracked , I assume one is fridge and the other is furnace ?
Does anybody know the part number ?
Thanks Jim

It's a pretty standard part.  I got mine from Camping world.  Camco--I think.  You can also get them from FOT but they cost more because they are paintable.  There are two styles so check them carefully.

I doubt that you have furnace vent on the roof.  Might it be the cover for the kitchen vent fan?

My two furnace vents are on the walls, below the windows.

Dometic is the manufacturer.  Original p/n 3103634.022

There is a newer style vent cover; not sure if it fits on the existing base that's on our coaches or not.

(ETA, per PPL's site, the newer cap model won't fit the existing base RV Refrigerator Roof Vents on Sale - PPL Motor Homes )

We have replaced both refer and range/micro vent.  We purchased from Amazon, vent cover:  Camco 42160 and Vent Base 42161.  We also purchased the Vent Installation kit with Putty tape.  $37.61 per opening.  Removed the cover, removed the Vent base, scraped off the old adhesive and reversed the process.  I decided to replace the cover and base as I didn't know if the new cover would fit the OEM base.  I have also used the Camco covers for the AC roof units.  I believe they are guaranteed forever.  I think that you can get them less expensively else where but some times I am a creature of habit.  The shape is a little different than the OEM style but they work well.  Took about 1 hour to replace.  ;D

As I work my way across roof doing repairs and buffing etc , I noticed the putty tape under the vent housing looks perished , the job just keeps expanding .
Ps
To all you guys that paid extreme or FT to refinish the roof , it was a bargain what ever the cost !!

Jimmy - The putty tape is important to replace.  Purchased that as Part of the Install Kit.  We had our roof done at FOT and am glad we did.  Good luck.  :D

Scott , is the putty tape sufficient for watertight seal , did you put any silicone on corners or screw holes into roof ?

There are 4 screws that hold the cover in place.  Once these are removed there are about 16 screws that hold the Roof Vent Base in  place. They will probably be hex head.  I used my drill with the appropriate hex head socket.  Once these are removed you will need a putty knife.  Run it between the Roof Vent base and the roof all of the way around so you release the existing adhesive and the Roof Vent Cover can be lifted off.  There will be adhesive still on the top of the roof.  Scrape this off too and clean.  I used a little Dawn/water mixture and sponge.  I was careful not to drip too much water and detergent into the open hole.  Not critical.  Once the adhesive residue is gone you use some of the adhesive tape all around the hole - no gaps.  This is your seal.  Place the Roof Vent base on top of the adhesive aligning the roof hole with the Roof Base opening.  You will now reattach the Roof Base with screws.  There will be two types of screws.  One for a rubber roof, philips head and one type with hex. heads for fiberglass roofs.  I did have to predrill a few screw holes.  The screws tighten the Roof Vent Base onto the roof compressing the adhesive tape creating the seal.  When all of the screws are in place there will be 4 screws that go through the Cover and secured into the base holding it in place.  It took less than 1 hour to get one done.  I did not use additional silicone.

Camco 42160 Refrigerator Roof Vent Cover - $19.55
Camco 42161 Refrigerator Vent Base (White) - $9.29
Camco 25003 Universal Vent Installation Kit with Putty Tape - $8.45

You could use the hex screws that you took our but I chose to use the new ones that came with the Install Kit.  You could also use silicone for the seal but I chose the Install kit.

When you put the screws in place they press the tape adhesive thinner and makes a good seal.  I tried to place the tape adhesive so there were no corner gaps.  Single piece on each side of the roof opening.  No leaks yet.  ;-D

Jimmy,

A common issue.

Remove the bad caulk, mask off and use a good sealer such as 3M 4000UV.  Yes, you could pull it up to redo it, but a lot of extra work for no gain.

I didn't lift mine, but I took out all the screws and replaced them with number 10 self drilling (just a sharp point, not a drill point) roofing screws (the original screws were number 8's and there were 49 of them on our coach!) with a bonding washer (rubber backed washer). These are powder coated 5/16" hex head white screws. I tightened them carefully by hand after putting a dab of caulking (3M 4200) on the threads. I was able to cinch the skylight down a bit more and squeeze some more of the butyl putty out. Cut off the excess with a plastic scraper, and cleaned the excess butyl off of the fiberglass (still flexible and tacky after all these years) all the way around with acetone. I had previously cleaned the flange with rag damp with acetone after the screws were out. I then masked and caulked all the way around. A day later, I had to some touch up caulking in a couple of places where little more of the butyl putty had oozed out. This last wasn't strictly necessary, because the butyl oozing out proved that it was filling any gap.
Just what I did, we will see how the coming years treat it. It hadn't leaked up to now, so the original butyl putty tape FOT used must have been pretty effective at sealing against the weather.

Got the old vent covers off , the putty tape underneath was in good shape and took some effort to move .
Just looking at the extra holes com paired to new , I could
A.      Drill new base to match old
B.      fill  old holes with resin and sand
C.      Fill old holes with 3m 4000

Any advice ??

Don, I did remove the shower skylight because it was leaking and no matter how much I sealed it it would still eventually leak. After taking the skylight off I cleaned everything and then found out why the darn thing leaked! The aluminum surround is made by cutting 90 degree openings where it is then bent at 90 degrees. Then welded where the two edges meet after the bend. There were large weld "bumps" sticking down where they would push on the plexiglass. This caused the corners of the skylight to either crack or break completely off. After grinding the weld bumps flush with the rest of the welds I then reassembled the skylight and haven't had a leak since. Did seal everything very well also.
