Injector Cleaner

I am needing some advice on Fleet Guard Injector Cleaner. Have any of you folks used the product?  If so what was the outcome? I have a ISM with a rough idle. I took it to Cummins  run a diagnostic test. No negative codes came up.

Any input would be appreciated.

I use Amsoil Diesel Injector cleaner - seems to keep things working well.

You didn't mention what year coach you have.  If it is older, a rough idle could be a sign of air in the system- perhaps fuel lines needing replacing?  I too took my coach last year to Cummins for my ISC running rough and check engine light on.  They said air in the fuel line from the primary fuel/water separator to the lift pump.  I had that line and the lift pump replaced, but still am having issues.  On my way to have all my old fuel lines replaced at Bernd's shop next week  ( in NAC).

Hope I didn't muddy the waters.

How do you figure that?average week for me 1800 to 2400 miles

At one time your post quoted 24000 miles a week. That was changed quite quickly after I posted. Either you went in and changed it or it was done by someone with the authority to change it. Several past posts have been mysteriously edited and/or deleted on the forum and I have no doubt that this was the case here.

K., there are earlier good threads on fuel additives. To respond to you question of Fleet Guard injector additive, and not your engine idle question, I offer this comment I made before....

When new to the RV, I called Cummins, gave them the ID number of my engine.  They told me no injector additive is needed.  If I felt I just had to do something, it would not harm it.

So, I do not add injector cleaner but still I am not as mileage experienced as many on the Forum, so search those threads.

Additives for algae are a separate issue.

I use Lucas fuel additive, have for years with good results, I dont feel like the fuel we get nowadays is as good of quality and has a lot less lubrication in it , JMHO, Adam

If I had the 2004 ISM450 with the original EGR, I would have it replaced with the new EGR, a known issue that WILL get you sooner or later, why it is recommended at your convince.

When we got our coach my tech pal prettymuch made me buy a case of "lubro moly" and we disconnected some lines and let the engine sip that stuff neat at idle for an hour. Maybe a new engine doesn't need such a treatment but on a 100+k mil Cat it really smoothed out the idle. I bet it loosened up sludge on the injector tips at the very least. I don't bother adding any to the tank... dilute once can in 150 gallons of diesel? But I'll repeat this treatment every once in a while.

I did what twobus did.  You remove the line going into the lift pump and run it straight into a jug filled with LubroMoly.  The engine fuel return line is also removed and run into that same jug, creating a closed loop system that only uses LubroMoly.  After a short while, the LubroMoly in the jug will darken quite a bit as it loosens up a bunch of crap in the fuel system.

Just keep running the engine until all the LM is gone and then hook up everything as it was before.  It did run smoother when it was done.  You will need quite a bit of LM for engines our size.  I think I bought about 8 bottles.
