Regular power cords (split from Re: Anyone have experience replacing their Shoreline electric Reel?)

You should be able to pick up a power cord 30 or 50 amp from Walmart or any RV store. May find a lower price on the internet if you have the time to wait for delivery. I would advise not trying to fix (patch) the messed up one.

I don't know if you have Menards Home Improvement stores in your area, I  was there this weekend and saw they now sold 50 amp RV cords 30'. I can't remember the price but remember being struck by how low the price was.

We carry one of these as a emergency extension cord.  It stays very flexible in all temps - seems well made.  Have never needed it...

A good source for power cord is a local electrical supply house, buy the length that you want and add your own connectors, ( they will have both ends in stock ) may cost more than the mass produced ones but you know what you have and how to put it together.

Mobile homes (single / double wide types) parts stores or better yet an electrical supply house, sell nice and long 50-amp mobile home cables with bare wire at female end (no female connector).  They do have standard RV 50-amp molded male plugs.  Sometimes the mobile home cable cost less than RV cables and may be longer.  These cables are also useful to make a long 50-amp extension, by adding a 50-amp female on the end.  And an easy way to make a SmartPlug shore cable.
Since it is nice to have a molded male plug and don't need the female connector for a reel, mobile home cables may be the answer.  They are often sold in different lengths which may allow the full reel to be utilized.
It is important that cables have 3 AWG-6 wires for the two hot legs and neutral, usually red, black & white.  The green ground wire is often AWG-8.

Actually, found my extra one..used once will sell cheep.. pa please.. has both ends factory installed

Here is a tip that I did when my power real went out. When the power cord reel fails, it could be the cord or the brushes in the reel. Either way, you are up the creek without a paddle when this happens. What I did so not have a problem in the future (after replacing the real and cord) was to disconnect where the cord entered the transfer box. There, I mounted a female plug end on the cord coming from real. Next, I made  short cord with a male end on one side and on the other side, hard wired into the transfer box. This way, if the real failed again, I could unplug the plugs near the transfer box and use and extension cord from the pedestal to the male plug. I also found wiring up both my Progressive Surge unit as well as my Autotransformer with male and female ends, allows me different combinations of hookups before my transfer box. I can post pictures for those interested.
