how do you test your lp detector

I have a Hydra-flame co2 and lp detector. I just purchased a new Atwood co2 detector which is battery operated, which I plan to install near the current detector. I think my current lp detector works but is there a way to test it. I plan to leave the current one installed but they are no longer made so I can't replace it with original parts. Any ideas? Mine was tested in 2011 when a hose in the propane locker chafed through and let the entire neighborhood smell of propane.

It worked.

If it is original equipment, it should be replaced. (I think, maybe 8 years) If you get down on the floor  and look it probably has a date on it. I've forgotten how long they are supposed to last but goggle the manufacturer and you can find that information. There is a replacement model, I suspect that will fit the hole in the cabinet.

Hair spray, bug spray, etc (most with propellant) will/should set them off.  Clearly a propane torch (yes, NOT lit) will do it.

Thanks Brett thats a great and easy idea. My thought is the co2 since it has no smell, is the most important thing to have operational and the Atwood battery detector is an easy install. Your propane torch idea will test the lp detector which I believe will work as it should, we shall see.
