Free to Newbie (only), 50 amp cord

If you are new to a FT, you may be trying to figure out what to carry with you, want to leave behind.

One option to carry is a 50 amp extension cord.  I have been in sites where my coach shore power cord would not reach to the 50 amp pedestal.  In that case I needed an extension cord and I have one extra.

IF you are new and do not have one of these, I am willing to give you one for free just to help with all the expenses of such unforeseen things you might need or want.  They are normally about $150.  The catch is that you have to pick it up some time you are in Nacogdoches or if you have a friend traveling thru, they could get it for you.  It is just too heavy and bulky for me to think how I could ship it to you, but I am open to the prospect.

Otherwise I will sell it to an owner that needs or wants one if there is no Newbie taker in a week or so.

Mike, I would gratefully take advantage of your generous offer but do not plan on being back in NAC until the fall.

Decision......very much wish I had two, but only one extra cord.  Since Jeff responded first, will give to Jeff.  Not sure how going to do that shipping, maybe wait until fall when he in Nac.  Shipping seems complicated due to weight, awkward, but maybe I wrong, easily done.....tbd

On the other hand, know Scuba and Siren and would like to do anything to help yous guys, but Jeff was first to respond and I know he a VERY new Newbie, for I posted the photos of Crystal Ship and he bought (gave a deposit) that night as I recall, at least I think it was him....might have been another person who wrote me thanks for the photos posting, guess could have been another person and later changed their mind?  But fairly sure it was Jeff.

SO......Siren, maybe can make it up to you another way one day.

Jeff, I got your pm about shipping, I will look into options so send me your address, maybe email so easier to communicate?

Shucks.

Great score, Jeff and Sandy! You'll  love it. Douglas has had that on his wish list for a while.

Happy Trails!

That was me Mike. Twenty minutes after I saw your post about the coach I was making a deposit. Thank you very much for your kindness.  I can either pick it up in NAC or I'd be happy to pay shipping.

Check out the USPS flat-rate boxes. I've used them several times. The box itself is free, and the postage is based on the size of the box, not the weight. You might have to coil the cord and use a few zip ties to make it stay put, but it might fit. Service is 2-3 days and includes a tracking number.

Way to go helping out a newbie Mike.

We have been on the road full time almost 8 years now and most of the time we do not need the extension, but when we do...........
there is not one available for at least 100 miles.  Good thing to carry.  Extra fresh water hose and an extension for the dump hose ( I use Rino Hose) are good to have also.

Best of luck with getting equipped and traveling Jeff.  Remember, it is an adventure, not a destination.  So relax and enjoy it all.

Cya down the road

We carry three 50-amp 220v cables, and recently in hot Denver, used all three cables to reach a 50-amp outlet.  We also carry a #10 30-amp 100-foot cable if needed to extend things longer, plus two 30-amp cables to connect to two 30/20-amp outlets at one time.  One cannot have too many electrical cables.

So most of these RV 50 amp cables are #6 or bigger (smaller number is bigger)  I think #6 for the flexible fine stranded wire is good for up to 100 ft at 50 amps.  Check your wire size.  It should be marked on the side of the cable cover.  At three 50 footers you might want to not run full loads.  Probably never do anyway.

Up in Canada at the Provincial parks they have the 30 amp power posts out at the road between pairs of campsites.  Everyone up there brings lots of cable.  The park office has cables to loan/rent for a deposit.  It was at least 30 meters to the pole for us.  A helper cable was required.

I am so glad I found this forum which led me to Foretravel....err, or was it the other way around.

I so appreciate everyone's patience and generosity as I learn and ask lots of questions that you have probably answered many times before..

Mike, thank again for your kindness, we really appreciate everything, especially for your original post about the coach!

As we begin to step away from our business and spend more traveling we look forward to meeting new friends on the road.

Man, ya'll carry a bunch of cables! This is first trip I've actually used the 50amp. Normally I just use my 30amp setup as that is what is available. I bought a 30amp to 50amp twist lock cable off amazon. Much easier to deal with. 30 amp can run 2 A/C if careful, but no charger on hi, etc.

My A/C show about 12-14amp each on my progressive tech meter.

If the 50amp cord isn't long enough (25feet, i guess?), then I have to suffer with 30 amp!

David, thanks.  Not know that shipping option.

Jeff, will take a day or two but look into that ship option next week.

Reading all the replies on this such simple offer reminds me yet again of the often many aspects of the forum (friendships, humor, life lessons, compassion, technical)......in these, people underline it all. I never thought beyond, maybe this help a fiend to give a danged cord to someone, i am not carrying two extras, just a small offer.

But along comes bringing a cord to Jeff, but anyone that happens on this thread gets an idea or four.  The potential real need for an extra cord, Canada travel, the pedestal too far is not frequent but!, how to build a wire system, role of 30 amp solutions, do not pull too many amps.

You folks are the best.
