Water Pouring out of EverPure Water Filter

We have a substantial amount of water pouring out of our EverPure water filter under the kitchen sink.  We heard a dripping sound, looked down towards the under-the-sink cabinet, and noticed a small puddle forming.  ScubaGuy ran outside and quickly turned off the hose.  Reminder: we are on shore water because we're rebuilding the water pump bay. 

After cleaning up the water, and with the water off, we are still seeing water leaking from the top of the filter from underneath the blue ring.  It seems to drip out intermittently, even with the water turned off.  :thumbsdown: 

How do we get this stinkin' filter off?!  ;)  ScubaGuy can't remember for the life of him. 

Any ideas on what is causing this?    :help:

On the top of our blue ring is a flapper thing a ma jig. You have to flip it to the opposite direction that it is in now and that will cause the ring to come lose & then the filter. Once he finds that flapper it will all come back. Mike would know what to call that little thing but he isn't awake.

Possibly a bad O ring causing a leak.

We have successfully removed the filter.  The o-rings look totally fine.  We should mention that we installed this new filter cartridge 2 months ago.

Puzzled as to why this would happen today, and still not sure what is causing the leak.

I hate it when this happens.  Glad you stemmed the flow.  Do you have a water pressure regulator?  Some city water pressure is very high.  We use 40 psi.

What is the big blue ring for?  Does it somehow lock the filter in place?

When I installed the filter, I simply inserted the filter into the housing, pushed up a little and rotated it.  Am I supposed to be doing something else to get it to lock into place?  Do I need to do anything with the blue ring?  :help:

Tomorrow, I'll dig around in the scuba gear and find some good quality silicone.  I'll inspect and lube the o-rings, cross my fingers and re-reinstall.

We have a pressure regulator, I don't remember what it's set at.  I guess it could have failed, I'll test that tomorrow as well.

I did find this similar sounding thread: Drinking Water Filter  A cup with a water alarm sounds like a very good idea.  We were very lucky we caught this within a few minutes.

Once you have the blue ring turned correctly it should allow you to flip down that black plastic lever on the left in picture. This lever is actually the shut off and should be down in use. Before putting water on take this black valve off as the little o ring on this may be causing leak. If I remember right you can just either pull on it to remove while it is raised. Lubricate the new ring as well.

You have to turn the blue ring a quarter turn.

Just looking at the blue ring I realised it does not look like it has gone up enough. Should be almost just touching the underside of the bracket. I think you need to push cartridge up more and that will allow ring to turn a bit to lock. When the black lever is down correctly the tip (lower) should be almost level with the underside top  "moulded lip on blue piece"
I wouldlift up black valve and try to push up as I said and see if blue ring now turns then black lever should drop down and lock that ring from turning. I think it is leaking because you do not have filter located right.

Thanks John & John,

I cleaned up the o-rings.  Then I lubed them with a good quality silicone lube. 

Then I installed the filter cartridge correctly, and no more leaks.  :dance:  :dance:  :dance:

Apparently it's very important to get the blue metal ring rotated enough to then lock the black plastic handle in place.  :facepalm:  :facepalm:

Now I just need to pick up a water alarm.

Great. See the first picture and what I meant about the black lock lever being flush with the underneath of the top rim of blue cap. It also looks to be (blue ring) just about flush with the underneath of the mounting bracket so that is good.
