I've got the itch, and want to go, go, go!

I've had my coach for two weeks. It hasn't moved since I got home and it's driving me nuts.

I've been busy working, outfitting and stocking. By this weekend it will be usable with all our stuff inside. I want to get out there already! I really enjoyed the driving experience once I overcame the fear of being passed by flying 18 wheeler's. There is something visceral and pleasing about the sounds and feeling of that turbo-charged Detroit Diesel pushing you down the road. I want to do more of it and I want to do it soon.

I can get away this weekend but I'd be solo. Just me and my furkid, Buddy the Labrador. I'm not sure how smart that would be, trying to get into a campsite without a walkie talkie assist from my wife. Our first scheduled trip isn't until July 7th. We are going to Grandfather Mountain Camp Ground in Linville, NC. It's about 30 minutes away but we thought we should stay close to home on our first trip.

I don't think I can wait that long. Anyone need some company?  :D

In a word: "HOOKED".

That is the (very) good news!

Welcome to the next phase of your life. Many of us are into new experiences.  Sure beats sitting at home watching TV.

Jeff, you could try out a short road trip & find another Foretravel or two, there's one with really neat people in it, right off of I-26 at exit 53 in Flat Rock, see if you can snag a nice pull thru (easy peasy & tons of room!) on Mikaela Lane at Lakewood RV Resort, see Lakewood RV Resort - Recreational Vehicle Site And Apartment Rentals -... but first drop a note (PM) to Richard & Susan ("Looking west" on the forum) or PM me for their email address, see if maybe they're around this weekend...they're newbies too, + there's another nice FT there as well...older people who may never drive it again (except to sale) so 2 very nice 1999 U-320's to have a closer look at.  Also Ratbug (David) lives in the area, he started the Foretravel sightings thread, he's probably busy racing cars this weekend but never hurts to see if he's around too, not far from Flat Rock...good luck!  Gotta get out there & scratch that itch!!!!  :))

If you are by yourself just get out and look and look up too.  Then watch your mirrors and your pivot point.  Also hand signals made with the entire forearm work better the voice.  The engine will enter free with you hearing and the button press as well. I have stopped and gotten out and looked during tight maneuvers.  Just pull the table out of the way watch your camera and drivers mirror. It is easy.

Thanks all. I'm going to try and get away next weekend. I forgot that this Saturday I'm meeting DTV to have the Genie and mini installed.

Miz Dani, that one is perfect, thank you for that info. I've bookmarked it and will try to get a reservation for next weekend. The distance is perfect, long enough to get the coach and generator a warm-up and workout, short enough that it's worth the drive for a couple of nights.

A few things to keep in mind:

"Walk the site" before you back up.

"Learn to use the mirrors" for scanning the area as you back up.

"If in doubt--stop, and walk the site again before backing farther."

Be careful and have fun! You will really enjoy your new adventures!!

When checking out the site make sure you LOOK UP.....Trees have a tendency to put their branches in the way.

Everyone said it right- look up, down , all around.  Go slow and when in doubt, stop, go out and look again.
Getting it right by being slow and careful is much better than going fast and oops..................

Enjoy it and hope to see you down the road .

Oh yeh, a word about the trees at this beautiful campground, (Lakewood) ....they didn't mark the parking area for check-in (for which they apologized the next day!) so I pulled up under a tree, the only open place I could see to get out of the roadway, should have been a tree friendly kind of place but.....) ..anyway, managed to rip the TV antenna off the top of the coach (didn't know what it was for 3 days, sounded horrendous!)

Then on the way out a week later, the departure lane's much narrower than the arrival lane (they're both on a small but steep hill) with trees again on the right side so a big bad tree snagged the middle of my 3 right mirrors & it's now facing the ground!  I was able to get the coach a mile down the road to the storage place but now have to get it fixed...Allen wrench (?) I guess, according to my guru Gary O....anyway, beware of trees, always, I have learned yet another valuable lesson!

I have this little plaque in my coach that says "the trouble with trouble is, it starts out as fun"...guess I'm just trying to live up to my motto!  :))

One of the hardest parts of owning a motorcoach for me is watching it sit instead of being out on the road.
