There are a few threads on adding a third valve for dumping......

Is that project to improve sanitation? I would think shutting off the inner valve results in a cleaner secondary valve?

Thanks all.

It is to prevent a surprise when the primary black tank valve is not fully closed due to an obstruction and it also allows back flushing the black tank when you are dumping.  It pushes it in from the bottom where the crud is as well as a much faster way to move a lot of water into the black tank.

That is a surprise that every owner with three valves has more than likely experienced.  One we (I) would rather not repeat.  Roger

That is exactly what prompted the addition of a 3rd valve on mine.
If you don't have one you really should consider it.

I bought a portable 3rd valve, and just twist it on as needed, to help back flush grey tank into the black tank.

But maybe more useful is the piece of mind, that I can always close off both tanks, and repair a problem valve later when I have the parts and place to do so.

My main reason for a third valve is that the black tank valve did not close all the way. When I took it apart, I discovered a long piece of white plastic with a small heart on the end of it (I think it might have been one of those doodads for keeping hair rollers in place). It was lodged in the valve and would not let it close completely. The worst part was, even if it was a slow leak, I got a terrible surprise when I removed the cap to hook up the hose.

It only takes once!

I got really lucky, my wonderful FT guru, Gary O. started me out 'right' by installing the 3rd valve right after I got the coach, so I was spared the shock of ever dealing with such unfortunate "surprises"  :o .Jeff, if y'all make it down to Lakewood in early August, you'll see my set up, a first class job by the one who most likely came up with the whole idea.  In fact, I'll even let you "try it out,"  just come over early on my last day there & you can do the honors!  :))  (just kidding, but it is a great set up!)
